Passenger Detection For Air Bag System

Hi

I have a new 2008 Chevy 2500HD crew cab/long bed LTZ.

I have been reading my manual again and I have a question.

There is supposed to be a passenger detection system in my truck. There is a mention of a warning light in console in the roof. In my console in the roof there is a blank plate in its place. I tested an 07.5 truck that had the light.

There is also supposed to be a warning light for the seatbelt for the passenger side in the dash with the red picture of the person in the seat with an X2 symbol I do not have that function present either.

Does this mean the airbag on the passenger side is not functional?

I'm worried as I transport my family often in my truck and concerned for their safety.

I think this system is only on the 1500s. 3/4 ton (2500) and up don't have the same fed regulations regarding airbags. If the airbag were non functional, an error or warning light would be lit by the computer. On my 07 t1500, there is a lamp that tells me when the passenger airbag is on or off.

I'm sure somebody with a 2500 can chime in here.

Anybody?

What he said. FROM THE OWNERS MANUAL: The passenger sensing system works with sensors that are part of the right front passenger's seat and safety belt. The sensors are designed to detect the presence of a properly-seated occupant and determine if the right front passenger's frontal airbag should be enabled (may inflate) or not.Accident statistics show that children are safer if they are restrained in the rear rather than the front seat. We recommend that

Ok we recommend that kids are in the back but some people think our recommendations are dumb. The passenger presence system is a system designed to protect kids against people that ignore that. There are two main sensors in that system, one that tells weather or not there is enough weight to activate the airbag and another that shows weather or not the seat is positioned far enough back to release the second stage of the airbag.

The passenger airbag is active at all times without passenger presence systems so it works like any other vehicle with airbags you have. Just DON'T PUT THE KIDS UP FRONT please.
