Drive Shaft Aluminum Or Steel

Recommended Posts

Posted

Hi, new to the site, looks pretty good. I did search a little bit, but I couldn't find the answer.

I need to replace the u-joints in my 2000 1500 Silverado, ext cab 4WD.

Stupid question I'm sure, but how do you know if you have an aluminum or steel driveshaft??

Thanks

 pick it up! J/K, if you are not sure take a magnet to it. if it sticks, then its steel, no stick = aluminum. Also a steel shaft will prolly have little surface rust on it. while aluminum should look about new. thats the best i can think of.

Yeah, the aluminum wouldn't have any rust on it like the rest of the bottom.

I thought he said he had a Chevy, Not a Tundra....
