I was going to have the dealer install this on the 08 SD I’m picking up, but I read this description and am a bit confused.

 

[2-way technology and a convenient display screen shows the last command performed using your remote transmitter (e.g. locked doors, remote start engaged, etc.) as well as critical vehicle data, including remote start count down timer, tire pressures, fuel level, and odometer. What's the deal with this not working with crew cabs and rear sliding windows?

 

A lot of people have confirmed that it does in fact work with the rear slider. Careful though because some dealerships claim that it wont and will refuse to do it.

There is no incompatibility at all with a rear sliding window. The software works. The only reason is the location of the antenna. The antenna is supposed to be in the center of the back window, but with the rear slding glass obiviously it moves from the center to the passenger. I had one dealer lie to me and say the software would not work with the truck, so I took it to another. I spoke to the technician at the next dealer and they told me the limiting factor was the PLACEMENT of the antenna. That dealer installed it and just moved the antenna to the driver side corner of the back window. It DOES work with the rear sliding glass no matter what kind of bullsh*t your dealer tells you.

Can this be installed if you truck did not come from the factory with remote start at all.. i have an 08 Sierra 1500 SLE and would love to have this feature

They have 2 kits and I was told that 1 was if you already have remote start and the other was if you did not.

There is a big differnce in price also.

As long as your truck has RPO code AP8 (Remote Start Prep)

Would anybody know where I can find the users guide for the system? I had my wife take my truck to the dealer and have it installed but I am out of the country for 2 more weeks and I am real anxious to read the literature.

so i went and checked and my truck does have the ap8 rpo in the sticker in the glove box, so what does it take to install the advanced remote start, it it jus a simple harness thing? Also why would my dealer tell me they could not install a factory Remote start on my truck?

I am very interested also. I have the remote start on my rig and would like to upgrade but unsure if it is DIY plug and play or more intensive. Answers please from this who installed.
