Bucket Seats

Noob here. Picking up a low mile '97 GMC 1500 SB w/ 5.7 and 5 speed tomorrow. It has the bucket seats with console. Have a question I can't find an answer to - is there a way to put a child seat in the console area? I can't tell if the console flips up, or if there's even a belt there.

If it has true buckets and a console there isn't a center belt. Wouldn't be hard to add one though. Most common setup in those trucks was the bucket like seats with a flip down center in a 40-20-40 arrangement. Those have a center belt.

I've attached a couple of pics. I'm guessing it's the true bucket option?

 

I haven't seen the truck yet; it's 150 miles away. Otherwise, I'd have this figured out :uhoh:

Ah, well. I'll see what I can work out, or, worst case, swap for a bench.

 

I'm going up tomorrow to hopefully buy it. I was going to go back to an old (early-mid '70s) truck, but I've always liked the '88 - '98s, and this one looks pretty nice. It's a 2 owner '97 SLE with only 54K miles, and it's bone stock. Most importantly, it has the 5 speed. Has a color matched shell, which I'll get rid of, and a bedliner which I'll replace with a spray-in. Don't know what other mods I'll do until I drive it a while.

Yeah, I think I may want to keep it a bit milder than that. 10 years ago, I had a '95 Dakota RCSB with the 5.2 and 5 speed - rare! I had just about everything done to it that could be done; there wasn't a lot of stuff available for the 1st gen Daks. It was fun, though - kind of like a 5.0 Mustang with a bed. I also had a '96 Impala SS at the same time, which I bought new, to stay true to my GM roots :D

54k miles, you have a good find!!

No kidding! A V8 5 Speed RCSB truck is cool! Might want to keep the shell... I love my RCSB truck but my shell is like a big trunk... in a truck that has NO space for anything if you have a passenger.

I got a bench same color I'd love to trade for buckets. I can put the kids in the back XC seirra 1994. Im in WV. Where are you at? PS I have a UPS business account and would be willing to ship and give you labels to ship the buckets

I'm in CA. That would be big bucks to ship, business account or no.

 

I'm leaving at 6:30 tomorrow (Sat) morning to go check it out. Hopefully, it's everything he says it is.

      You're better read than that Atlas. 😏   British science fiction writer Arthur C. Clarke formulated three adages that are known as Clarke's three laws, of which the third law – that "any sufficiently advanced technology is indistinguishable from magic" – is the best known and most widely cited.   Stribeck and the pivotable Hersey Number isn't voodoo nor snake oil. That part is physics. It's what marketing and bean counters do with it that is snake oil and voodoo.    Stribeck is the relationship between Hersey and the Coefficient of Friction. Within the Hersey Equation if viscosity and viscosity is 'Dependent' on.......heat.......and.......viscosity index or the temperature to viscosity slope.    Specifically Hersey is the viscosity AT THE TEMPERATURE IN THAT LOCATION FOR THAT SLOPE.   Hydrodynamic lubrication exist when the film thickness in the location is 3X the Ra roughness of the surface. This is irrespective of the hardness of the substrate. To obtain that thickness X viscosity is required for Y velocity at Z load. That's a lot of moving parts. It is also impossible to maintain in an ICE but nearly possible with a turbine under constant load.    What does that mean? Error heavy and operate light. Wear is inevitable but the rate of wear and the milage obtainable are a function of prevailing conditions and HABITS. The only penalty is viscous drag and at fractions so low as to be well worth the effort. Double the life, half the manufacturing carbon foot print. Greed is the only impediment.    The materials generated by SwRI are the RESULT not an estimation or a hypothesis.    Don't delude yourself sir, EV's have as many pitfalls as ICE's. We just don't know what they are yet and it will take longer to sort as MARKETING and GREEDY CEO's have had more time to polish the turd they are selling.

      You can always count on greed to prey on ignorance and stupidity.    Friend bought a 2019 Ford Flex and asked me about using Valvoline R&P 5W30 in it. Told him give the miles on it and the fact it wasn't yet using oil that it was a good plan. He uses a Valvoline quick change shop for his oil service.   First they tell him that isn't the oil the OEM recommends. He told them he didn't care what the OEM thought. Then they floated the, "But it will void your warranty"    His reply was it's a 2019, there is no warranty and informed them their knowledge of the law was lacking.    Then they tell him 'But it will ruin your motor"!.    Mine to ruin he says. Finally they give in and charge him 150% the semi-syn price    Point it the brainwash is so embedded that even the service industry is drunk on their swill. The public is right behind them. Echoing the same lies on every forum and media platform. If the end goal is indeed EV then I'd say that ship is about built.
