Installed 285/75/16 Tires, Sensors Acting Up

I just put bigger tires on my 2008 hd duramax, and the tire sensor light is on and it the DIC says check my rear tires. Is their a fix or am I just going to have too look at it for ever? I also would like to recalibrate my speedo; will a power programer help or am just tossing money away?

I'm new to the site, and I did do a search; but, I couldnt find any info on reprograming for the speedo and tires. Please Help Brad

Check Superchips - they have a programmer just for tire size and speedo recalibration.

www.superchips.com

I believe they are a sponsor on here. I have the Superchips Flashpaq for my 07 Classic Hd and it worked nicely when I put on 285's.

Did the programmer just do the tire stuff or was it a power adder also?

Is your truck back to stock settings like the speedo and fuel milage readings correct?

I was told that GM could do a download to fix this, have you any info on that? Thanks

You should be able to do a relearn procedure on the TPMS and make the light go away. It's spelled out pretty well in the manual. If that doesn't work do a search on TPMS and one zillion questions about it will appear!

Most programmers allow for speedo recalibration.

Is TPMS getting an air pressure reading? Assuming it is then the pressue(s) are too low. If you aren't getting a pressure reading then try the "re-learn" function. If that doesn't work then the sensors might have been damaged when the tires were installed.

I attempted to have the dealer lower the pressure setings on my truck and they were told by GM it could not be done. Nor could they re-cal for tire size, the dealer claimed they could re-cal the ABS sensors but not the speedo. Since I only stepped up to 265's it really isn't that big of deal and couldn't justify the cost of a programmer.

Did you have to crank the t-bars for 285's? I had a little rub at full lock with 265's.

If I'm not mistaken Superchips has a tuner that also has 97 and 93 octane tunes as well as the ability to recal for the speedo (which is what I have) and I believe they also came out with a unit that just does the speedo recal for larger tires.

I didn't have any rubbing with my 285 on the stock rims and I didn't have to crank the barsd or do anything. Over 203k mile son the tires w/o an issue. I just rotate them every 7k miles and watch the tire pressure for wear. I usually run 50lbs in the front and 45lbs in the rear and they seem to be wearing nicely.

Where would I find the procedure for recalibrating the sensors I looked in my owners manual and no luck? My sensors are giving me readings.

Some one told me this morning that you could get GM to sell you a code, that your local dealer could use to recalibrate the speedo and at the same time it would reset the light and abs. Has anyone ever herd of this, and if so, what's the name and number?

Maybe I'm being a bonehead (it wouldn't be the first time), but what exactly is the problem? It seems that they are giving you readings. Are the new tires running at a higher pressure than the old ones and the system needs to have its "valid range" updated or is it something else?

I took of the stock tires 245/75/16 and installed 285/75/16 the tire light came on and the DIC says I need air in the rear tires not the front ones. My Brother-in-law just bought the exact truck with the same tire swap and he gets the exact same message. IS their a recalibration operation that will compensate for the tires and does it require the dealership or a scan tool?

Size or type of tire has nothing to do with it. The system needs to relearn the new positions for the sensors and the air pressure has to be within the original range. You can relearn the positions through the DIC. If that doesn't solve it, a trip to the dealer might be in order. Any actual recalibration (which usually isn't necessary) would be done by the dealer.

It shouldn't have anything to do with the tpm system but it does affect speedo and odometer. We can get special vci programs for some tire sizes but to the best of my knowledge those are only for the sizes that we sell as upgrades. I am not aware if we can get a vci for a tire size that we don't offer.

Ok, I just re calibrated the sensors, and I had to add air to both rear tires. They are now @ 67PSI, Wal-mart must not have re calibrated the sensors; because, I put 77 psi yesterday and It still showed to check both rear tires. That problem is solved; now, on the next one.

If I bought a programmer, which one would work the best for fuel mileage and fix the speedo problem. Also what does it take to lift the truck up 2 inches?

This correct, you put the wheels back on the truck in a different place from the original position. This happened to me. The dealer gave it a flash and fixed it.

What happens with after market wheels?
