Bose Speakers

Just the other day I noticed the driver side speaker was not producing any sound. Check the balance on the stereo with no effect. The first question is how to remove the wire mesh from the door. Is there a trick or do I just pry it off? I don't want to bend up the cover and have to purchase a new one because I was to lazy to ask how. The next question is how I determine if I blew the speaker. I am not a mechanic so I was looking for an easy solution if one is out there. Thanks in advance. I have a 2003 Sierra 1500HD Quad Cab.

The grille does not come off from the front, you need to remove the whole door panel. I can't think of a (easy) way for you to test the speaker. Most of the time if you have no sound from a speaker it's not the speaker. That's not a rule, just most of the time. If you find you can get the door panel off easily you could take the other one off and swap them. Having a donor is the easiest way to check the speaker but not all speakers will work with all circuits, that's why I say to take the other side.

Thanks for the quick response. I truly appreciate your help. Pulling off the entire door panel sounds like a pain and a good half day project. Oh well, I'll give it a try. So I should take both door panels off and swap out the speakers to see if I did blow the speaker. If I find the one speaker on the passenger side works, then it points to a blow speaker else I have a wiring problem correct? It wouldn't be the stereo would it? Asking the questions before I get to far into ripping the door apart. I wouldn't think I have blown the speaker because I rarely go over the third bar (not sure if that makes sense) or very high on the volume.

Wait those are for up to 02. They are very helpful but let me add something in place of some of those steps for an 03. Use the second link thats the one I'll be modifying. After pictures 4&5 there is a 7mm screw behind that manual lock lever, take that out. Picture 8 where the door switches are being removed DO NOT DO THAT, 03 and up the switch is screwed on from the back side and you will break your door panel. Aside from that there might be a screw along the bottom, sometimes they are there sometimes not. Once you pull up on the panel as instructed in the link and remove the bulb then disconnect the switches from the back side. Or you can skip that part and let the panel hang on the wires (just don't hang on the panel or yank the wires) you could remove the speaker with the switch still connected, good luck.

Thanks for catching that Mike, I forgot about the re-designed switch panel.

And removing the door panels is NOT hard at all, the first time I did it, it took me about 20 minutes to get the first one off, after that, I can have one off and back on in less than 5 minutes. I switched the speakers to find out what was wrong, and it ended up being the speaker, that's probably the easiest way to find out.

You can determine if the speaker is bad using a small AAA or AA battery.

What do you do with the battery?

Just momentarily connect the speaker terminals to the battery. If the speaker is still good, the cone will move.
