1999 6.0 ltr engine question

I was looking under the hood yesterday and discovered my truck does not have aluminum heads. My buddy says I have to or it can't be a vortec engine. Who's right and what hp and torque specs does it have? thanks in advance.

Your buddy is wrong.  The 5.3's came with aluminum heads (IIRC), butI know for a fact the 6.0L's had cast iron heads in '99.

 

HP ratings- 300 HP @ 5200 (?), 345 TQ @ 3500 (?). not sure on the RPM's, but I think the other numbers are close. All I know is my '99 was a DOG.    ???

Yep, the '99 6.0L engines had cast iron heads, and the 4.8 / 5.3L engines had aluminum heads.  

 

Can't remember if it was '00 or '01 that they switched the 6.0L heads to aluminum - I think it was '00.

My Y2000 6L has iron heads too - GM switched in 2001 to aluminum.....

 

I'm not disappointed though, it doesn't have the cold start knock and has enough power for me.
