Vortec?

Easy...It describes the combustion chamber in the cylinder heads,The air entering the intake valve of the cylinder head does so in a swirling or "vortec" motion (Kinda' like a tornado)

A lot of people think it has to do with the fuel injection system/setup,not true at all,its the cylinder heads.

The first "vortec" engine was the 4.3-V6 introduced in the C/K trucks & Safari/Astro mini-vans,and those weren't fuel injected at first (Not until '86)

Can't we get the same performance from a Tornado?

thanks, yeah im a dick sometimes i cant help it sorry. i never knew that how much u reckon it helps performance?

Ahh,Thats no problem!

As far as performance I don't know,I'm sure it helps some,Most of the power increases came from GM upgrading the fuel injection systems,They went from throttle body injection (TBI) to central port injection (CPI)

But again,I stress the "Vortec" name has nothing to do with the fuel injection system or setup, although a lot people think it does.

They've also changed the camshaft for power increases in some engines,For example the 5.3 in '99 was rated at 270hp and the 4.8 was rated at 255,but in 2000 the 5.3 was rated at 285hp and the 4.8 was rated at 270,they accomplished this by using the camshaft from the 6.0 engine.
