thermostat and heater

Hello,

I have a vortec 5.7 and somebody passed this on to me and I was wondering if somebody could verify if it was accurate or not.   Here is what was quoted.....

"I think tomorrow I'm going to drain it and pull out the thermostat to see if it got stuck closed after sitting for a year in open air.

It turns out that the thermostat wasn't stuck after all. I pulled one of the heater hoses off at the fire wall and there was no water in it. I was able to pour another 1.5 gallons of water into this hose. It fills up the

block behind the thermostat. The vortec's have thermostat is on the bottom side of the water pump so they wont fill up by just filling the radiator. In their stock form they fill through a surge tank that is tee'd into one of

the heater lines. I got it fired up again and the temp leveled out at 187°F."

I am new to the vortec scene and could use all the wisdom you guys can spare!  Thanks!  Danny
