Factory Backup Camera

so about a month ago i brought my truck to have the tv looked and fixed so they ended up replacing the whole unit. i never had the backup camera or anything and now when i got it back everytime i put it in reverse the screen goes black like i should have a camera, but i shut that option off cuz i dont have a camera, now can i go to the dealer and just buy a camera and plug it in and turn that back on?

There are 2 skus for the factory radio, one will support the backup camera. Maybe you got the radio that will support the backup camera? I believe it has 4 connectors on the back vs 2 for the non-camera.

 

You need the wiring harness for the camera, which I read somewhere was present on all the vehicles during early production and was then was only installed in vehicles that actually had the option later in production.

 

Also, there is a silver box under the passenger front seat that is part of the system. It flips the image. Apparently I don't have it in my truck (I was unsure, as I have some other box under there), but I was told "if it's there, you won't miss it-- IT'S A BIG SILVER BOX!"
