Optimum Tire Wheel, 3" Lift

I will soon lift my 2008 Sierra Denali with the 3" Rough country kit. I'd like input concerning the optimum tire size and perhaps tire/wheel combo (Regarding wheel width and offset)

Right now I am considering

1. Stock wheel 18 X 7.5, and a 33" BFG All Terrain

2. 17 X 8 wheel, 4.5" B.S. 33 11.50-17 BFG tire

3. 17 X 9 wheel 5" B. S. 33 12.50-17 BFG tire

4. 18 X 8.5-9 5" B. S 33 12.50-18 BFG AT

I'm definately not into bling or chrome of any kind above what the truck already has. The wheels would probably have a black center with a polished rim or just be totally blacked out. I see no advantage to 20" and they are over priced since I do not plan to road race the truck. I am only interested in function, strength, and light weight. The 17" (which is smaller) is much less expensive and has more sidewall for timew when I might want to deflate slightly to gain more traction, so that's why I'm leaning that direction...

4. 18 X 8.5-9 5" B. S 33 12.50-18 BFG AT

Any of those combos will work with a little trimming.

I am a big fan of the stock wheels on the GMC

Outside of the tire issue, you might want to search this site for info on the rough country 3" kit. If i remember correctly, several people have had issues with this kit, one so bad that he ended up putting his truck back to stock and returning it.

I'd go with an 8" wide wheel, and a 33x12.5" tire. I'd go 17, but I like small wheels. A 33x12.5 on a 9" wide wheel will probably have more rubbing issues than an 8" wide wheel.

Agreed!! Go with an all black 17x8 w/ 4.5 BS with the 33x12.5 tire and call it a day. At least, thats what I would do.

Thanks for the input!

I'm hearing the 33" 12.50 tire is OK

I, too, like the stock wheel, but am also a fan of the black spoke wheel.

Have looked into and searched info on the RC kit. Mostly due to a bad batch of bushings and a sub standard ball joint. Apparently that has been corrected.

When you consider that the lift spacers impart unusually severe angles on the upper ball joint, those are a no-go in my mind. Then the cost of a 4" bracket kit that doesn't space out the front wheels is 2K. The 3" RC at less than $500 is some pretty big bang for the buck. I don't plan on off-roading this truck (see my sig) so keeping most of the factory stuff makes sense.

Glad to hear both that you had done the research and they they've fixed the issue! good luck. Should look nice!
