Synthetic Oil Vs Conventional Oil

Just rolled off the lot with a 2008 Sierra 6.0L V8 Vortec Max

I was thinking about switching to Synthetic oil. Is it truly better then conventional motor oil? What is the best brand name to use? Do you have to do anything special to switch?

I just switched mine over to Mobil 1 syn oil. I did it mainly because it has better lubricity in lower temperatures, and handles higher temperatures without breaking down, over conventional oil. There have been a few threads about this exact discussion, and using the search function will give you enough info to keep you reading for a while. I also looked at the Mobil 1 website as there is some good info there.

My tranny has conventional oil in it (I asked the tech at the GMC service center and he told me that there was indeed dino oil in there), and I am thinking of switching that over to syn oil soon. I also tow a 5000 pound trailer over a mountain (only way out of the city), and this will help with the higher then normal temp's I encounter.

In the end, it is your decision, but there is a lot of discussion on which is better (cost, frequency of changing oil, etc). It will be interesting to see what responses you get. Good luck.
