Trailer Hitch Install On My 07 Gmc

OK the joke has always been that the dealer got a fully loaded truck 4x4 Z71 Tow pack etc but not hitch - so the Mrs and I are moving to SC and I have to get a hitch now to tow some of the goodies . So I know the place where they get them done aftermarket so that is no big deal - My questions is that i see the plastic square on the back by the plate where the brake light plug - etc goes in. I looked under the truck and it is all wired and ready to go - the catch is .. how do I get to the socket with out breaking the plastic? does not look like a snap off piece or twist or anything but you can see that it is a plug and wired already from under the truck. I just do not want to snap off a plastic piece that hides the plug - I knwo on my buddies his just lifts up and snaps closed - mine i have to flippin clue!! sorry so long for such a lame thing...

You need to buy the electrical receptacle w/door,Like whats on your buddies truck.

you till have to buy the door thing or it won't work cuase the door thing has the prongs for the plugs

right now you just have a piece of plastic

it comes off by turning it and then pushing the taps down and pull out

i ran into the same problem with my truck but i used swapped out my peice of plastic with my dads door thingy cuase he never uses his

it has the receptical - just no door  I was iunder the truck and the receptical is wired - just no door damn it!!

Right I know,On trucks without the factory trailering package (Z82) this is how they come,You need to buy the receptacle w/door,right now all you have is what they consider the wiring "cap",not the receptacle.

When I get to the dealership tomorrow I can post the part number.

Just run the wire under the bumper. To hell with "plugs"

Then use baling wire, duct tape, or zip ties to put er back up when done.

Or wait for MS3DALE to get the # :)

OK,The part number for the receptacle w/door is 15932302,It runs $72 bucks.

Yeah,$72 bucks is a little pricey....You might find a dealer around you that stocks one,I stock one here (Although I'm out if it right now, just sold one the other day and I'm waiting for another to come back in)

I'm sure you could find it online and get it shipped out 2nd day air,or even overnight if you want.

Thanks for the Help Dale - I will also call the guy who is doing the hitch install - maybe he has the plug or such - I am a bit OCD so I just want it all to look nice and neat ya know?

If it's not too late, I bought the factory hitch, which included the receptacle for the wiring, for about 160 cdn, iirc. Installed it in about 25 minutes, with a 6 y-o helper, so could have been faster without the helper.
