2008 Airbag Service Light On

I need your help

 

I replaced the Steering Wheel on my Silverado 1500 for a leather with Audio Controls

 

when I connected back the battery, the mesaage center shows Airbag Service

How do I fix it?

Did you double and triple check all your connections? Were the connectors on the new steering wheel the same as on the one you removed? It definitely sounds like a bad or missed connection somewhere.

Did you have the battery connected or turn the key on during any part of the process?

Back to the question. There are plastic retainers called position connector assurance tabs on the air bag connectors. They look like they should have no effect on the system but on newer models (before I get a bunch of people telling me they threw theirs away they did nothing in older models) they do. There is a shorting bar in the connector as a saftey device and if you leave that tab off (that happens alot) you will have a service air bag lamp. You would know if you took these off and did not put them back on, the connector would not come off without taking them off but would go back on just fine without them.
