Trailblazer Ss Question

I have an 07 2WD (stock) and have put just over 35K in less than two years. I have had NO issues with this vehicle with routine maintenance including many long trips around the country. According to several posters on the TBSS boards there are numerous problems with these vehicles....significant problems. I wonder if these folks, who modify the hell out of their TB's, if there is a correlation between these mods and vehicle reliability issues. I am fairly ignorant in regards to mechanical workings and was wondering from those of you out there who are knowledgable on these matters if this is a possibility, or am I just lucky with my TBSS?

There can be. Once you get past a certain point (depending on a number of variables) durabilty does suffer as HP/TQ goes up. Most bolt ons (CAI, exhausts, etc...) should have NO effect of reliablity unless installed incorrectly.

Edit; Welcome to the site! :dunno: You should make a new thread under the new members section and post some pictures.

I didn't mod mine, and it's currently on it's 5th transmission...At 37,000 miles or so. Thank goodness it's not mine anymore. I'd have driven it into a pole by now.

Welcome to the site  . For some reason you either love the model or hate it. The trailblazer/envoy is very hit or miss. The only thing I can count on is the lower end models have alot less problems. The more options the more problems but not in a normal way. It is exponential with this model for some reason. If you find a good one they are great, I bought a 06 with a 5.3 and afm and it has been great. I have customers with the same exact vehicle and some have had a ton of legitimate problems and some have been problem free. I happen to like the platform (unless I have to fix it for warranty times) but alot of times the problem is the higher end models have alot of tech stuff that just doesn't play well togeather and needs a tech geared that way to fix them right the first time. If you got a good one I wouldn't worry about other peoples experiences with this model, they are hit or miss, you got a good one or you got a bad one. My $.02 only.

X2...Mine had some minor things pop up here and there, but for the most part it was a badass truck and I loved to drive it. But the transmission failures were getting old.

My neighbor has a 5.3 TB that's nearing 200k, and all she does is change the oil and wash it once every 6 months or so. She loves the thing.

It sounds as if you must have ran it pretty hard to go through 5 transmissions, because after the second I would have turned it back in. That is the only thing I do not like about the truck is the 4-speed they have that beast 6.0 liter matched with....its rough in low gears.

It's only gone through 4, it's on it's 5th

I tracked it once...And I didn't beat on it any harder than I beat on anything else I own. This last transmission is a brand new one, not a rebuild or a refurb. I talk to the new owner on a daily basis and she's HIGHLY agitated with her purchase to say the least...The last two failures were after she'd bought it. I told her all the problems I'd had with it, big and small. Tranny hadn't hiccuped in 24k miles or so since it's last failure (sprag, took 2nd gear with it) so she wasn't worried. OOOOPS.

Yeah, yeah... I guess you've got me there. :D

I guess the take-away lesson is that as much as the TBSS is a nice vehicle, the ownership experience gets old fast.

Hi, I have an 06' tb ss and i love it. I had to have the ignition switch replaced but nothing else. I have 37,000 miles on it. I drive it daily and have been on long trips. I drive it normal, Sorry I drive accordingly. If someone wants to race, I'm not backing down, but I don't thrash it constantly. I have taken it to the track, it went 13.7 @ 100 mph all stock. I beat 2 mustangs, a corvette, and a 350z. I don't know why these other guys are having problems, but maybe we are the lucky ones.........
