Older Duramax Diesels

Are older Duramaxes (like up to '07 Classic LBZ engine) set up to run on the ultra low sulfur diesel fuels? Would any long term damage occur, are any additives required?

there shouldnt be too much trouble, since ULSD is the only diesel they sell now. I know a couple winters ago plenty of diesels had trouble with it. They might already have additives in it now to make it all work.

I know if I were given a choice as to rather I wanted a pre 07 diesel emmisions motor or a post 07 diesel emmisions motor, I would sure take the pre 07 and avaoid all the junk they have strapped on the newer ones to meet the fed standards after 2007. That classic 07' classic model should have the older motor without the DPFs and other junk on it . The HP would not be an issue, you can bump up the hp for very little money with programers. The fuel mileage should be better on the older diesels as well.

The ULSD will work fine in the LSD capable trucks. I have had no problems with 80K miles. I few friends with 01's have had no problems either. When the ULSD first came out, some folks had concerns about the lubricity of the new fuel. The machining tolerences of newer engines are so precise that they dont even notice it. Even after saying that, I do run oil and fuel system lube through the system every once in a while.

120,000 miles. No additives ever. Still runs and starts better than our PSD. Not saying much, but....no troubles at all. Know a few others with the same year Dmax, no problems from the engine whatsoever.

I try to add some additives in once in awhile to help keep the injectors clean. You shouldn't have any problem with the ULSD.
