K76 - Alternator, 125 Amp, Dual

Ok, so I bought my new truck and just started going over everything and listed on the option sheet is

K76 - Alternator, 125 amp, Dual

ok so I go out, look under the hood and sure enough there are 2 freaking alternators. I have never had a truck with 2 alternators.

First question, I have to assume they are 125 amps each, is that correct?

What in the world would you need that kind of juice for in a truck? Why would someone order this?

duals used to come as 105's. Maybe that has changed but I am not aware that it did. I have dual 145's from earlier vehicles.

Backup house generator, light duty.

AS someone mentioned, if the truck is set up with a snow plow, several auxiliary lights, emergency light bar on top, and you have a high wattage CB radio in it, you will consume a lot of juice. So having dual alternators helps prevent overwhelming your electrical system when current demand is at its peak. .

I could not get the snowplow prep package on the crew cab so instead I opted for the heavy duty alternator and dual battery options. It works fine for me but I only have a plow and a single LED strobe beacon. No need for tons of lights especially now that you can get all the aux. lighting you need in LED.
