Well Ill start this off head on.

I'm aiming at buying a Pioneer AVIC-F700BT and installing it in my truck (my sig explains what truck I have). I used the search feature to figure this one out but had no luck. From what I understand I need either a Pac OS-3 or an GMOS-LAN-01 (non Bose system). What the heck are the differences between the two? Which is better if not more feature rich?

What do I need to retain my factory steering wheel controls? A Pac-SWI PS?

What do I need to keep the factory turn signal clicker? Is it weird without it?

What is the best mouting kit? Or is it a dash kit? I forgot.

Is it easy to do myself, or should I have someone else do it? Im decent with wires, as well as having a brother in law that is practically super man with car elecetronics. My only worry is that I want a clean install, leving no gashes or dents in the dash.

Any ones that has this unit, is their a way to have the decks mic run off the onstar mic so their is no need to install the one that comes with the deck? If not where did you put it so its out of the way?

As well, leading back to the GMOS-LAN-01, if I intend to install a amp later on, will I need an intirly new unit? The GMOS-LAN-2 apears to have external amp hookups where the 1 does not. What is the deal, what will I end up doing if I do buy an amp later?

Hopefully some can be answered!

Have ya tried a little research at Crutchfield.com ?

They have a site where you can punch in your vehicle specifics, and the system you are looking at, and it does a fairly good job and providing necessary components and compatibility surveys.

I have used Crutchfield for various purchases, and can only say good things about their products and knowledge of their staff.

This may help ya out a little. I am not knowledgable enough on this pioneer system to answer your questions specifically, but I think a visit to crutchfield may give you, at least, a jump-start.

Search on my user name and see a post I had about an AVIC D3 install in a 2007 nbs.

I used a PAC 0S-3. Comes with chime module. I still have Onstar available but didn't renew it.

Answer to other questions in CAPS below.

What do I need to retain my factory steering wheel controls? A Pac-SWI PS? = YES

What do I need to keep the factory turn signal clicker? Is it weird without it? THE PAC HAS THE CHIME TO KEEP SIGNAL/DOOR CHIME ETC., SET THE VOLUME BEFORE BUTTONING UP THE DASH.

What is the best mouting kit? Or is it a dash kit? I forgot. METRA IS A GOOD COLOR MATCH.

I'D SUGGEST THE SAME FOR VIDEO ACCESSORY AND REAR VIEW CAM.

YES

Perfect

Does it sound like the factory one?

METRA IS A GOOD COLOR MATCH.

Thanks! My dash is the SLE2, so its the typical black with small amounts of silver.

Good to know, does everything fit behind the deck neatly without need for cramming the deck in?

Hm, I just dont want it to be all that visible.

So if I choose the PAC-OS3, I will be better off for long term additions as opposed to the GMOS-LAN? I'm confused as to what the differences are between the two? Why do most people recommended the GMOS if the PAC appears to be better.

Nope. Not bad. But chime is a little tinnier. Just don't set it too loud or too soft.

Never seen inside of sierra...assume it is similar to silverado. It is a very close match. The only issue is a slight gap at top left. No one but you will notice.

YES / NO. Assuming it is the same as silverado you'll need to cut away once you pull the stock HU out. I think I had pictures of it. I used tin snips to nibble away at it and then a sharp blade to trim it back. Once I did that there was plenty of room. If you don't do that it will not fit flush.

It's not. Honestly I rarely notice it. I had it up higher on the window trim but it didn't pick up my voice as well.

I can't really comment on the GMOS-LAN...I don't remember the specifics of why I picked the PAC. I recall struggling between the two. I think it was easier to integrate the SWIPS and in total it was cheaper and came with the chime. I went back and forth. All I can say is I am running an amp with sub, and using the pioneer headunit for the doors.

Use the AVIC411 forum....good resource.

Have fun.

Their is no work around for having to cut the back panel out?

Not for my install. It had to go. The unit would not fit flush if I had left it plus the difficulty of getting all the wires in would go up tenfold. No big deal. Snip snip...shop vac....all done. My unit doesn't move one bit...doesn't impact anything.

It's been a few months now, how is the AVIC-F700BT in the NBS Silverado/Sierra? Whats the install parts list? Thinking of doing a upgrade very very soon. I had a AVIC-D2 a while ago and it always seemed to do it's job.

I have the F90BT, and am quite happy with the unit. There are a couple of issues. First the PAC SWI-PS steering remote does not work well with these head units, they are coming out with new model for the avic F series, there is a delay between button press and the operation and not all functions work.

Second the metra kit does not line up well, I had to use spacers and modify the mount to realign with dash. but from what everyone is saying, that is common for all the kits.

I would recommend getting the all inclusive harness (either the PAC OS-4 or the peripheral GMAHL1) instead of getting two seperate wiring harnesses.
