2005 Duramax Fuel Mileage

HI

I am new to diesels and was wondering what folks get mileage wise with their stock trucks. I am interested in town, combined and hwy.

also, the truck I am looking at is a trade in and I have little if no service history. All I know is two oil and air filter changes. One done at 30K the other at 50K. The owner said to his knowledge the fuel filter has never been changed. Should I be concerned about this lack of info and maint.?

Thanks in advance.

In town, I'm getting about 17mpg.

On the highway, if I keep it around 60-65mpg, I can get 21mpg.

However, most days I get less than that....hard to keep my foot off the accelerator. ;)

My 05 Silverado 2500hd 4x4 get 16-18 mpg in town but only 18 mpg on the highway. Can't understand it. My previous 03 Silverado 2500hd 6.0 L gas only got 12 mpg in town and 18 mpg on the road. The diesel also gets 3-5 mpg better towing our camper at around 12 mpg depending on the terrain.

Hope this helps.

My 04 LB7 gets about 15 City/ 20 Hwy with the Edge tuner and 285/75/R16 AT tires. And my FIL's 05 LLY gets about 13-14 City/ and 16-17 Hwy Stock everything including the dinky 245/75/R16 tires.

If you do get it I would change that fuel filter right away. I don't let mine go past 2 oil changes. I've seen what it does when you don't change them. FIL's 05 was pulling his camper up a hill trying to pass a semi, all of sudden he lost all power to climb and pissed off a bunch of people behind him. All because the fuel filter wasn't changed and it packed full of crap.

And IMO those 2 oil changes are really far apart. The only thing I am thinking is that the previous owner didn't take it to a GM dealer all the time to get serviced.
