Front Left Wheel Going Tick Tick Tick...

We're going to put this truck on the lift tomorrow, and balance the front tires (there's a definite shimmy at certain speeds)...

But the problem I also would like to solve is the ticking sound coming from what seems to be the left front wheel.

I had a guy tell me it could be the wheel bearing, since the wheel doesn't seem to tick when you jack up the truck and roll it.

But my mechanic (and a couple of others also) said that doesn't sound like a bad wheel bearing. There is no grinding sound, and you can swerve left to right and back and there's no difference in the sound.

Maybe the CV joint? The boot looks good.

Has anyone dealt with a problem like this before? I wanted to have a new hub assembly with me when I go to my friend's garage tomorrow evening in case I end up needing to replace the hub. But if a bad wheel bearing isn't likely to cause this ticking sound, I won't bother taking one.

Finally a cheap fix... :ughdance:

The chrome wheel simulator seemed to be the problem. I removed it and the noise went away.

I guess the truck's weight had to be on the wheel before it would flex enough to make the sound.

I'll probably pad the inner rim of the simulator with some duct tape and re-install it.
