How's it going? Bear with me I'm new to the whole forum thing. I'm in need of some real help. I've got a good background in auto mechanics but this one is a new one to me and I'm stuck. I tried googling it and saw such a wide range of answers my head is spinning. Anyway sorry for the ramble... I was driving my 2001 Silverado Crew Cab 2500HD in 4wd HI, parked at a convienience store and came back out, started the truck and got the "Service 4X$" light on the message center. The lights on my 4X4 switch were off and I couldn"t change it out of the 4X$ HI i was in. No funny noises or smells. The fuse is good and I scanned the ECM for codes, nothing there. Where do I go from here? Can I drive it, or anm I in danger of trashing the transfer case? Any guidance would be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance.

Hi there and welcome to GM Trucks! :sigh:

You should be just fine driving in 4wd Hi as long as it's not making any odd noises. What is causing the service 4wd message could be a number of things like you've found. I would start with the simple, like that the switch needs replacing since there is no power to the switch.
