Bluetooth Options?

Recommended Posts

I was checking out a 2009 Silverado and discovered that they have Bluetooth built in. I have a connection with a local dealer and can buy parts at dealer cost, which would make the price of a deck for a 2009 reasonable in my opinion. The question is, can I just swap the deck and get the bluetooth functionality or is there other stuff I have to change as well. I am not looking to add nav, just the bluetooth.

I also discovered that Scosche makes an adapter for bluetooth that is supposed to just plug in and work, using the factory steering wheel controls and deck controls. Does anyone have any experience with that unit?

Thanks.

what about just getting a 09 radio? it seems that with onstar bluetooth should be easily integrated... what is the difference in 08 to 09 that allows bluetooth

Read the first post. That was the first option. Although, it appears he has an '03 which means the factory unit will more likely be a giant PITA than using an aftermarket unit.

got it so it looks like if i were to get my hands on a 09 unit i should be fine now would it have to be the triple throw down nav unit or would any 09 radio do the trick? the delphi set up looks fine but typical bureacracy has it tied to only gm dealers so do i just need to call my dealer and see how much hes gonna rip me off?

or maybe my current radio has a "malfunction" and they install one of the new ones cause im great at breaking and shorting out things haha its the fixing that gives me trouble

The 2009 GM Bluetooth option is part of the Onstar Gen 8.0 system. It is a voice operated system with handshake capability with certain Bluetooth phones. It will not operate with the same functionality

as Scosche Blue Fusion. The Gen 8.0 Onstar system uses a different rear view mirror and control unit

as do the 2007 and 2008 models. At this time, it does not appear Gen 8.0 is backward compatible.

So are you saying the 07 and 08's will be able to also have this functionality or are you saying only '09+ will? You seemed to imply that the '09 uses a new OnStar system but then you said that it uses a new mirror and control unit as do the 07 and 08's.

The 2009 GM Bluetooth capability is only good for 2009 vehicles with Gen 8.0 Onstar.

Gen 8.0 Onstar is not backward compatible with 2007 and 2008 vehicles at this time.

The Onstar Bluetooth does not offer the same functionality as the BlueFusion vendor option.

The 2009 Onstar Bluetooth capability uses a different rear view mirror with an additional

button for the for the new Bluetooth function. The 2007 and 2008 GM vehicles only have the

Onstar voice button for making cell calls via Verizon. The 2009 models have two buttons

for voice. One for Onstar Cell and one for non-Onstar Bluetooth cell calls.

Thanks for the clarification. Any chance you might know whether there is any talk of an OEM retro-fit kit for the '07 & '08's?

Nothing published yet on Gen 8.0 backward compadability. The install of Gen 8.0 would also require

a possible wiring change due to the added bluetooth button on the rear view mirror. More to come.

the bluetooth in the 09 trailblazer doesn't use a different mirror, is this a possible retrofit?? From looking at the pictures and reading the directions it looks like it just uses the dic and whatever module adds the bluetooth. It does not seem that it is in the onstar module, because you can get onstar without bluetooth. anyone with any ideas on this????? I added tpms to my truck without any programming, just switched the pdms, added the sensors and it showed up in my dic....this should work similar

Check with your dealer. The 2009 GM Bluetooth capability is integral with the Onstar Gen 8.0 module. The functionality uses an additional Dial/Voice button on the rearview mirror for some models.
