I bought the truck new, and would like to use bluetooth for my cell phone, is it possible? I don't want to subscribe to their onstar phone service... Thanks.

Bluetooth wasn't available until the 2009 model year. I don't know if you can add it or not.

Nice looking dog you've got there Greg. I've got 2 labs myself.

As Mazz said, Bluetooth isn't built in but there are aftermarket kits available. They are expensive though, you'd probably just be better off getting a normal bluetooth headset.

Yeah, I just ordered a bluetooth earpiece for my cell..

Ha, ha,, you like Jackson? He is a funny dog.. I rescued him from Louisiana...

I got this for the wifes impala MOTOROKR T505 Bluetooth. I got it on amazon for 65.00 new.

I bought the same thing and took it back last month. The damn thing wouldn't keep a charge very long  . I only use my cell maybe once a day for 2 minutes. I even tried powering it down between calls and it still needed charging every 4 days.

I don't care for the hand-free corded headset with a cell phone so I'm likely to go back to Onstar with my tail between by legs. My lifestyle just doesn't require packing a cell phone around. I just want one in my truck.

I can get the un-advertised rate of $18.95/mo (Cdn $$) for the "safe and sound" pkg and just buy the minutes which aren't too badly priced. I miss the hands-free convenience of On-star without having to dick around with charging batteries. Damn, I hate that...

I've had two or three of the visor bluetooth hands free devices, including the Motorola 505. They work fine at a stoplight or in a truck with very quiet tires at speed. But put some mud tires on a truck or roll the window down on a stock truck and you get people telling you they cant understand you, etc..

There are the high end bluetooth integrator type systems available for the 07-08 GM trucks/cars that taps into the stereo. The Coastal Lock Pick uses the Onstar microphone already in many vehicles but requires an aftermarket Bluetooth system like the Parrot. The Scosche Blue Fusion must use it's own mic but taps into the stereo for the speakers.

$350 for the Scosche

$ 140 ish for the Coastal + maybe $100 for the Parrot or similar

I've been keeping my eye on this item that claims to fully integrate with the stereo and actually replaces the On-Star Moduel. The application chart says it's available for the 2007 Classic. I hope they advertise it for the 07-08 NBS model, then I'll give it a try!

Paul,

I was under the belief that the Onstar system in 07-08s were all the same and that the 09 was the changed hardware?

They list a 07 kit.

My dilemma is that $300-400 is a lot of money to pay to make calls. I can buy a lot of handsfree headsets for that. Also, I have activated and paid for a yrs worth of Onstar. I would want a handsfree system to not interfere with that. The Scosche doesn't interfere with Onstar but requires it's own mic, but since my truck has side curtain airbags, I don't even want to try to run wires up the pillars nor let some yahoo kid in a stereo store do it. I may look at the Coastal Lock Pick again or just wait and use a headpiece for now.

I understand where your coming from. If you look at the Application sheet on their web-site it specifically says "2007 Classic" so I don't think it's availble for the NBS 07 or 08 model yet. I used On-star for the first year, even bought minutes because I have Verison, but really never used it. I did not re-activate the On-Star after the 1st year, so in my case, it's useless weight that could be replaced with a functional piece of equipment that would be used frequently with no added cost after the initial purchase. For the record, I'm also looking for an HD Radio module that would replace my XM module because I no longer subscribe to that service either. I plan to keep this truck for the long haul, so the initiall investment should ultimately outweigh the long haul cost of On-Star and XM subscriptions! I'm also considering dumping our Direct TV service for an antenna once signals go all digital! I just hate the monthly fees these people charge when I can get the same thing month after month at no cost other than the initial equipment cost.

If I could afford it, I'd also sink a well in my backyard and equip my house with solar and wind energy production with a back-up generator! I'd love to be fully self-contained! Just my way of sticking it to these money grabbing utility companies!

I really like the BlueFusion kit; been using it since Oct '07. In addition to the handfree phone and using the steering wheel controls and headunit, the device works great with the iPod via bluetooth. I had the Peripheral PXAMG previously installed for the iPod, and I believe the sound quality from the bluetooth is equivalent or better than the hardlined option. Given those two benefits, the ~$300 is not that bad (IMO).

the BlueSTAR kit you linked to looks very promising. i'm going to keep an eye on their website to see if they officially confirm 07-09 application. i'd also be interested in the HD radio module you mention, so if you ever find one be sure to post back here. thanks for all the great info Paul.

Justin,

I e-mailed their sales department to inquire whether or not they are developing an application for our trucks, I'll post up what I find out...

As for the HD Radio, my searches thus far have not yeilded any promising prospects, but there are others on here more saavy than I, so I posted a request in the Audio section as well to see if any of our audiophiles had heard of anything that fits the bill!
