Why Do Inscentives Suck So Bad Right Now?!?

I wish GM would hurry up and have another employee pricing sale. I'm ready to go buy a new truck but damn the incentives suck right now! noone wants to deal AT ALL. they think they're doing me a favor by giving me some rediculous price. then I think well ok, I'll make it up on my trade-in and get some money out of these jerks.....they low ball the hell out of me. $11,000 for a 2004 extended cab Z71 with 65,000 miles in PERFECT condition. yeah, I'm just going to give it away. they think I'm crazy when I laugh at their offer and I return the favor by laughing at their offer on the new truck. $4,500 is a good inscentive, but it's not a drop in the boucket when you're talking about a truck that's overpriced to begin with($36,463). I guess I'll just sit back and wait to see what happens in the next couple months. is there anyone else on here that's wanting to buy but just not seeing any deals right now, or are you just taking it in the butt and getting a new truck no matter what it costs? aren't they supposed to be desperate to sell a truck since apparently all american auto manufactureres are dying? maybe they dont listen to CNN.

I just purchased an 09 2500 last weekend because of the deal I got. Basically this was how it broke down. $4,500 in rebate and owner loyalty, $500 for a car show rebate (there was a dealer car show in Omaha last weekend), GM is running a Credit Union program where if you are a member of a credit union you get supplier pricing which was ~$3,500 off, and to top it off, I had GM card earnings that were capped to $3,000 and not subject to redemption limits. I traded in my 08 1500 that I had for 1 year, and all said and own, walked out the door for a little less than $12,000 off MSRP.

I was in the market for a bigger truck and was going to buy used, but after I dealt between a couple dealers, I felt I got a pretty good deal. It took a little work with the dealer and I had to keep saying no, but in the end I got what I wanted.

so the credit union discount ammounts to an extra $3,500?! some little snot nose punk salseman told me it was "a couple hundred off" and I asked "what exactly is a couple hundred off?" and he said $200. then he tried to charge me that $200 back to "deliver it to your office and pickup your truck for trade-in". Another dealer told me the discount was $500 off and a third one wasn't sure but thought it was $1,000. you see the kind of shit I'm dealing with here in SC? I just wan't a fair and HONEST deal, I'm not trying to get the lowest price ever in the history of the car business, but I mean c'mon. All I can come up with is $4,500(and I'm guessing since I bank with a credit union that's an extra $3,000 right?). I won't take LESS then $12,000 for my trade in UNLESS I get a good ammount off up front. I figured they would want to deal a little better on extended cabs since GM is offering $500 more off apparently because everyone wants a crew cab. I qualify for owner loyalty and credit union. I don't have a GM card though. would it help you think if I just bought my mother a 2008 LTZ Malibu? I just want someone at a dealership to work with me. I'm not that difficult of a customer, but I'm not a moron that is going to get taken to the cleaners either(refer back to the various quotes on the credit union rebate).

that is a good offer. the problem is they didn't want to give me but $3,100 in rebates when I qualified for $4,500 and proved it to them. their initial price on the truck absolutley was horrible. I just want a dealer out there to give me ALL the rebates I qualify for, and a trade-in of $10,000-$11,000. then he's got a deal. the truck I want is a $36,463 truck.

what a douchebag. this sounds like a sketchy salesman at the least, maybe even a shitty dealership overall.

thanks for posting. I got the $4,500 figured up, I just need to find out exactly how much the credit union discount is. I've heard 3 different quotes about it so I'm confused as to which one is right or at least close.

In my area, you can still buy a new '09 for around $4000-$7000 off MSRP depending on the model. My feeling is that supply and demand is starting to fall in line, at least in the area where I live. The dealers have fewer trucks in inventory but appear to be turning those trucks quicker than they had been a few months ago. As supply and demand starts to equalize, the $12,000-$15,000 of MSRP deals will be few and far between. Even though the automakers need to increase the number of vehicles they sell, there is no point in continueing to produce if they aren't going to make a good margin. They are better off idling the plants (like they have been doing) vs. continuing to build vehicles just to discount them $12k-$15k. Just my .02.

That being said, I think the OP needs to shop around and find a better dealer to work with. :D

i think you're correct. can i ask what options you have on your truck and how much it was and what you paid for it? i've worked with several dealers thus far and haven't been impressed with any of their prices except one($28,922.34) but i have yet to talk trade-in with him.

Frankly, once I "smell a rat", I walk away... for good. I refuse to even visit a dealership once I get a feeling that they aren't "forthcoming and honest". There's too many good dealers around to have to put up with that sort of nonsense. If they really don't know the answer, then you have to cut them some slack and help "educate" them... but if they seem to be lying, then they probably are.
