Hi!!!

I would like to know what are the differences between this 2 types of 4wd?

And if i can turn my push button into a floor Shifter?

The pushbutton transfer cases (TCs) typically have an "Auto" mode that runs thru a clutchpack and acts much like a limited slip, sensing differential speed between the rear and front output shafts. They also have 2 Hi (only the rear shaft engaged), 4 Hi, and 4 Lo (both of these modes have the front and rear output shafts driven at all times).

The floor manual shift TCs have no "Auto" mode and no clutchpack. They will typically have 2 Hi, 4 Hi, Neutral, and 4 Lo modes.

There seems to have been a number of variations on each type. Then there is the TCs used in the Denali AWD types, which I know next to nothing, other than they are similar function to the "Auto" mode (differential sensing) in the pushbutton, but don't have 4 wd in a locked mode nor a 4 Lo.

I dunno if you can convert a pushbutton to a floor shift. I saw some thread somewhere where the owner swapped out the pushbutton TC for an earlier type floor shift.

Though probably rare, I have heard that push buttons can short out. Especially out in the mud. The push button also isnt quite that fast where as shifter you "manually" engage almost instantly. I have push button, but would rather shifter.

I think GM and other manufacturers of 4x4 trucks are constantly missing the boat and shoving useless and even detrimental designs down our throats. No doubt the electric shift has some production benefits that aren't obvious to me.

Ford and GM are just recently coming to the conclusion that people tow with these trucks and started including trailer hitches and very recently added trailer brake controllers as an option. Halla looya! They did something right. This electric shift crap has to go. I work in the aircraft safety area and see electrical failures all the time. We never rely on a single path electrical system for something necessary. Electrical systems will fail, just a matter of time. I've had my 99 pushbutton fail when I was stuck in the dirt. When will GM get their collective heads out of their arses?
