Rear Brake Noise

For the past week or so When i am pressing the brake at slow speeds to come to a complete stop i hear a squeaking noise in the rear of the truck. i believe it is the brakes. i was wondering if anybody else is haveing this problem. I have drums on the rear. It is a 2007 Silverado 5.3L with 17" wheels.

My 08 with rear disks makes a horrendous squeal when the brakes are cold. It goes away after the first stop. It's also worse when backing.

I have a 07 Silverado, it has brake noise for about the first few stops but goes away, only has 36k miles on it. I just figured it was my truck, I'm going to check it out when I rotate the tires during the next oil change.

Your trucks have rear disc? I thought gm went back to rear drum? How are the brake linings? If the linings are thin (down to the wear indicaters) that's probably the problem. The older trucks like around 2001 with rear disc the backing plate would actually rust so bad that it would rub against the back of the rotor making a squeaking noise. I'm not sure on trucks this new, but it's worth checking the rotors for rust and the backing plates. If they're ok and the pads look ok I guess I'd probably drive it until it gets worse.

The VortecMax or 6.0L/6.2L equipped trucks with the NHT towing package comes equipped with 4 wheel discs on 07+ NBS.
