I have a 1999 GMC Sierra 4x4 with the 5.3 engine and get code P343 Camshaft Position Sensor A Bank 1 Circuit High Input.

Aslo Voltage in dash reads 1 mark past 14 volts.  It used to be about 13.8v.

Mileage  77,700     Mobil 1 Since first oil change  600 miles.

Where is the sensor?  I guess once I find it then I can check routing of the wire if I can trace it.  Any information appreciated.

Thank you

:D

For all people looking at this post the Cam Position Sensor on the 1999 GMC 5.3L engine is in the back near the firewall.  you can get your hand on it and feel the bolt holding it in.  You probably will scrape your hand between the thumb and first finger.

Some other parts probably have to be removed to get to it.  I had just part of one day where the temperature was tolerable to look at it. Michigan weather is just too cold to work on it when you dont have a heated area.  To sum it up it quickly got hard to start and $268 and change at the dealer and it runs fine again.

The voltage with code was 15.03 volts with DRL's off.

Thanks

The code should contain 'P' then four numbers, not just three. Btw, normal charging voltage should be around 14.6 volts. That's with all accessories and lights turned off. If the engine doesn't have trouble cranking over then don't worry about it. :D
