'96 Chevy 1500 Abs Problem

I have a 96 1/2 ton 2wd, first the airbag light would flash then the engine would stall cut out and the brake pedal would go to the floor. So I took it to a "reputable" shop and ask them to scan/check for codes etc. 500 bucks later it needed a tune up and speed sensor. After the repairs were done now whenever I come to a stop around 20 mph or so I hear a noise like a motor of some sort running or something, the ABS light comes on, and the red brakelight comes on sometimes. So I took the truck to another shop and had the brakes replaced and still the same problem.

Any ideas or suggestions??? Thanks.

Dont go back to those two shops. :D

The ABS module could be bad, or you have some electrical issues. You need to scan the ABS codes. It take a specific scan tool to do this.

I hear ya, no I knew it needed a tune up and brakes. But the speed sensor deal I don't have the equipment to check it out and luckily I have been busy working a lot. I just pulled the 60 amp ABS fuse for now. As far as a scanner would a dealer be the best place to get the correct codes or????

Yes the dealer is a good place to take it. Be in mind they do tend to charge more than the local shops. Try to get a quote before any thing is done regardless of where you go. Ask lots of question and take notes. Make sure you explain to them what work has already been performed.

On the bill/work order it says codes 35, 36, & 37 and they replaced the rear speed sensor if that makes any sense???
