Camper Mirror Auto Dim?

My window sticker says the camper/tow mirror on the driver's side auto dims. I can cover the back sensor on the rear view mirror and shine a light in the front sensor and the rear view mirror dims but the camper mirror does not. I don't believe there's a separate sensor for the outside mirror to dim but I'd like to know how others' work. Has anyone figured out how their camper mirrors dim?
