Drivetrain Problem?

Truck is a 2004, Z71 stock suspension. 215K + miles. About 2 days a go I pulled away from a parralel parking spot and it felt like it was in 4X4 on dry pavement. It made a bunch of clonking noise that made me feel like something was going to come out. But ater 2 or 3 car lengths it stopped. I got out of traffic and checked for leaks, put in 4X4 took it out, went in reverse and nothing seemed wrong. I took it to a local shop and had them check it out but of course it didn't do it again. He said the transfer case was low on fluid. So he changed it and didn't notice anything in the fluid. Drove fine for a day.

Today I pulled out of the parking space and just for a brief second it felt like the 4X4 was on and went away.

While in first gear there is a noise, sounds like a real bad engine ping, but goes away after first. Some time at high way speeds I can hear it but it is not consistant. Windows have to be up and stereo off to hear it, it's that low. Some one suggested a thrust bearing in the tranny?

I drive about 1,000 miles a week. Have AAA. Any suggestions? Sound like a visit to the tranny shop? It was rebuilt at 40K. Drive it till it stops working?

4 more payments and I'll own a truck with a quarter million miles on it.......

Thanks

I'd check the transfer case tailhousing for the pump rub pinholes..probably lost oil .. bearings..chain..ect are shot..look at the driveshaft... muffler for fluild spray on the underbody..it will only leak while moving.....

The transer case has a hole in it. Said it was a common problem? The pump wobbles and slowly chips away at it? Haven't had time to research it just need to get it fixed. Working out of a car sux.

The whole under carriage was covered with transfluid. Should have been a sign....
