Hole In Transmission

so the other day i was changing my oil on my truck and i noticed that my transmission had an open hole on the bottom. the hole is right in between my engine and the tranny pan. anybody know if this is supposed to be this way or did a plug fall out? heres a picture.

Thats a weep hole and is supposed to be there. Its in the bell housing where the torque converter is.

ok i thought that might have been the cause of my tranny problems but i guess not. is there any way to tell if a new tranny has been put in? the original owner mentioned it had a new one but i dont know how to check.

Basically a breather or vent hole that will allow any fluid or moisture to drain or evaporate. No fluid from the trans is in that cavity. The torque converter lives there.

That hole works good for pushing the torque converter up to the flexplate, too. My 2000 had a stamped plug that prevented big stuff from crawling in there.
