F1 television coverage

For the last 2 years, I haven't seen an F1 race since I didn't have Speedvision. (Not that I give a flip, really.)

But Nascar wife had been insisting we get it, since she enjoyed the extra racing coverage. Only glitch, was ATT Broadband, our cable provider didn't offer Speedvision.

So I bought the little dish, and signed up for Total Choice programming package, a year of DirecTV. Had it installed, ran the new cable all through the house. Up and running, works great.

Speedvision is pretty lame, with paid programming at times, lots of 3rd tier stuff like go-cart racing, european touring sedans, desert rally cars.

Finally found something that looked interesting. A roundtable discussion on the F1 2001 season in review, with the usual gossip concerning Ferrari, Mclaren etc. The roundtable was hosted by Bob Varsha, with opinions from Sam Posey, David Hobbs, a few others.

At the end...Bob Varsha signs off..."We hope to bring you F1 racing coverage in 2002. If and when that happens it will be on Speed Channel, not Speedvision."

Wonderful! What do I need for that? ATT Broadband?

Bernie Ecclestone <== YOU SUCK!

I think you still might be in luck.  Our cable provider finally decided to get Speedvision about a month ago, and the whole time there has been commercials on there about them changing the name to Speed Channel.  All this is supposed to take place towards the first of Feburary.  I'm under the impression its a simple name change and thats it.  I've been known to be wrong a time or two though....

You're usually right on these things K-Kid, but for now, you'll have to put up with my cynical, pessimistic and p.o.'d self. Varsha still said "if and when." Can anyone say "Pay Per View?"

Funny thing though...one of the guests, forget his name, they asked him, if F1 could have any American driver, who would it be? While that would make a good opinion poll for the GM-TC Forum, someone else might have heard his answer so I'll give it away. The guy answered (drumroll....) Tony Stewart. Can you imagine? With his loose cannon of a mouth, and those ever-so-sensitive-to-criticism european elitests, he'd whine, dine, sixty-nine himself out of a ride before Monaco.

It's really a question for Cart too. If you could have an American driver in your series, who would it be? LOL!

Now thats downright hillarious!  Not that he doesn't have enough talent, but with his attitude no way it could happen.  Might be something I'd be interested in watching on pay-per-view though....  (not the racing part, just what goes on between Tony and the European racing community)  LOL   :D

hold on....all is still cool, fox bought speedvision and is re-naming it the speed channel, no big change. except for most of the Champ car races will also be on the same network, and a bigger NASCAR Presence, along with all the motorcycle racing etc...should be better, I am just waiting for the season to start with another 24 hour coverage of the Rolex at Daytona..last year that was amazing.

:D

That's good Ken. Be interesting to see if Cart can make it through a whole season of racing before it collapses. Has to pay for the part of its seasonal coverage broadcast by CBS. And the other coverage, Nascar, motorcycle should be good. One thing remains...(not that I really give a flip  :D  ), but F1 is still on the "If and when list," according to Varsha.

(By the way, I was the original big bore GSXR, and still the best 1986!)  And now I am old!  :(

I can tell by all the commercials featuring DE Jr and his crew that NASCAR will be more present on the "Speed channel".

I just hope they don't get rid of some of the good stuff. FIA world rally, Exxon Superflo Series Off-Roading, the Dakar Rally, The SCCA Valvoline Run-offs, just to name a few.....
