G80 Locking Diff

Hey,

I am about to get a new 4x2 Silverado for a work truck. The invoice states that I am getting a (G80) diff. and (JL4) Stabilitrak-Stability Control with Traction control system. I have a pretty good understanding of both systems, but I was wondering how they are configured to work together? I have read that the Eaton locker engages at about 100 RPM of differential wheel speeds, and disengages at about 25mph. Where does the Traction Control come into play? One could speculate that it works above 25mph. Any help is much appreciated.

Traction control works all the time. If it detects a drive wheel slipping it cuts throttle back. The way I see it, traction control could prevent the rear end from ever locking when you actually need both rear wheels getting power.

Turn off the Stabilitrak when in two wheel drive and max traction needed. In 4WD it's automatically off.

This is a very good question that I have been wondering about too. TC does function at all speeds. It will kick on on snowy/icy roads and prevent wheel spin when taking off from a stop. Sometimes killing throttle almost completely when it's VERY slippery, which leads to a slow crawl. But yet, when pulling my boat out of the water on a wet, steep boat ramp, the G80 will kick in and I can get both rear wheels growling like a mofo.

 

I suspect engine load comes into play with how the TC functions.
