Help!

So greasing my driveshaft turned into a nightmare, it just will not slip back together. I put too much grease the first time and cleaned it out but no matter what the slip yoke WILL NOT slip freely anymore WTF? And does the carrier bearing press on and off? I'm stuck like chuck until I can figure this all out as my shaft is in two pieces in my garage.

You took out the slip joint to grease it? And can't get it back? Hmmmm......I have to ask - why? I am betting it is just an alignment issue. The leverage of the driveshaft makes it difficult to get lined back up. Which means this is no help at all - sorry.

I agree I would have to guess its an alignment issue, the carrier bearing is pressed on. I know this will sound dumb but, do you have the shafts going into the right place if you have a carrier bearing then it is a 2 piece shaft. If you need I could take a pic of mine, I didnt have any trouble replacing it after I put new universals and carrier bearing in. good luck.

I know this will sound dumb but, do you have the shafts going into the right place if you have a carrier bearing then it is a 2 piece shaft. If you need I could take a pic of mine, I didnt have any trouble replacing it after I put new universals and carrier bearing in. good luck.

Yes everything is going to the right place, but thanks for the offer. Can the carrier be pressed on/off at a regular driveline shop? I was told that the splines on the slip yoke have to be indexed to slip FREELY back together.. Hope it all works out as I'm hoofin it right now..

I did mine my

self but I have a a press, any drive line shop should be able to do it in just a few minutes. good luck.

Thanks bro, I took it to the machine shop and they did it in a hurry to make that quick 30 bucks. And she's back together and tighter than ever. The driveshaft goes together ONE way, indexed with the front unit. Another words it lines up the yokes and you have 4 possible positions that it will line up, but only one were the shaft slips freely in both directions.

One I added grease and changed the center carrier it's sweet.
