Radio/speaker Upgrade

I changed out my cheapo factory speakers with a pair of pioneer 4 way 6.5's being pushed by a 4 channel alpine amp and man does it sound good!

While putting in the speaker adapters, I noticed that there is a ton of extra room, especially on the front doors. I swear there is almost enough room to just attach a 6xp directly to the inner door panel with almost no trimming. The back (mine is an extended cab) is the same way, but has a slight hump that would make it necessary to make a small plate. I am tempted to try to do this, anyone else have any experience? Looks very easy to do. I may have 2 sets of new Pioneer 4 way's up for grabs very soon....

08 silverado by the way

don't use 6x9's they don't sound as good as round speakers. i put 6.5 components in the factory pods all around. in the front the tweeters are in the factory location and in the rear they are flush mounted in the top rear corner of the doors

I hadn't considered that. My new ones sound great, but the bass is not what I was expecting. I suppose I will look into adding a hidden subwoofer either under the rear seat or in the middle jump seat.

If your speakers are lacking midbass, "upgrading" to 6x9s will not help at all. You need to deaden your doors and seal the large holes, which will improve the midbass dramatically.
