05 Leveling Kit

New to site and was just wondering what tire clearance i can get with a 2.5" leveling kit on my 05 silverado

I'll try and field this one.

 

first of all, the front end suspension of an 05 silvy is vastly different than the newer 07+ it uses a torsion bar setup to hold the front end suspension up. couple of ways to gain front end lift:

 

1) crank the stock torsion bars, usually can get an easy inch out of this. but you'll need an alignment, your front end components will wear out faster, and your ride will be stiffer

 

2) get aftermarket "re-torsioned" keys. these accomplish the same purpose of cranking your stock torsion bars, but with the added benifit of cranking them further (about 2" total). you still will need an alignment afterwards. they also give you the added "benefit" of FASTER wear on front end parts and even stiffer ride. Basically they take the GM tolerances and push them beyond their designed limits.

 

every truck's different, but with between 1-2" of additional front end clearence you should be able to run a 285 tire on a stock rim, without rubbing.

The accellerated wear on the front end parts can be tempered with buying higher-end parts that carry a lifetime warranty. If (once?) they wear out you'll need to change them again, but at least you get the new one for free!

you're not going to get 2.5" out of keys on that truck. 2" max.

 

I was able to clear 33x12.5s on 17x8" wheels with 4.5" backspace with 1.75" of crank and very very very minimal trimming on the front valance.

 

The ride sucked so bad that I took the Ford keys off and threw them away when i installed a 6" lift a few months later. I even remember posting on the forums that "it rides great, rides like a truck, etc" after i cranked the torsion bars... that got old QUICK
