Hey guys,

Looking to do some work on my 5.3l. Its an '05 sierra ext cam 4wd. Gonna start with a chip for sure, had a bully dog for a while but i couldn't access all the tune modes (Drive by wire?????? I was told, don't know much bout it tho.) Wanted to know whats the best chip for the motor. Truck has about 175,000 kms on it. But i wouldnt mind doing the intake and exhaust thing later on, so I need to know whats gonna be the best combo to run.

Thanks

Diablo is one of the best out there as in handhelds... Lots of people will say custom PCM tune.. but Diablo sport for your year truck has ALOT of custom controls.

I'm in the same boat here. I have the Magnaflow weld in muffler and have an Airaid tube on the way. I'm stuck between the Diablo, BlackBear tune and Wheatly tune. There seems to be a lot of info out there, but most of it seems to be opinion. I'd like to hear what someone has to say, that has tried all 3 of these options.

I have a scanner so i'm not too worried about that part of the Diablo, but with the custom tunes it seems that there are a bunch of options for the tune as well as ways to get a tune. If you don't know much about the custom tunes, it's hard to make an educated decision.

With that being said, I just sent Carlie Wheatly a PM. Hopefully he'll clear the air for me

I had the same truck just before i bought my SD and after trying Hypertech, superchips and pricing just about everything from EFi live to W4M, and Jet dynamic tunning but ended up with the predator. You can also upload custom tunes to it. If you need it. I had Nitrous and headers so i had to but other than that just intake and exaust predator worked fine. Just get it dialed in

Man first of all stay away from Diablo its complicated if you wanna go deep into it, and it runs about $500 extra to have a shop tune it correctly(I just sent mine back, I ran better with the hypertech max energy) again some shorty headers you can pick up a set of pacesetter for $269.99, cold air $300, helix$100, electric fans $500, and Pulleys $300 and that would be a great jump.

I've tried the Diablo (STAY AWAY) it cost me $370 to buy the programmer another $66 at radio shack to buy the cables that the programmer should have come with at the start, another $500 to get it tunned at " one of their certified installers" to fit the mods I have, not worth it!!!!

Yep. I've done a lot of research and I've found a lot of really poor customer service.

I have been in contact with Wheatley and we've been working out the details. I should have my tune VERY SOON. Wheatley's customer service is second to none so far

I should have my tune and Airaid tube installed in a few weeks, just depends on shipping times

I'll let ya'll know how it turns out.

    • You're better read than that Atlas. 😏   British science fiction writer Arthur C. Clarke formulated three adages that are known as Clarke's three laws, of which the third law – that "any sufficiently advanced technology is indistinguishable from magic" – is the best known and most widely cited.   Stribeck and the pivotable Hersey Number isn't voodoo nor snake oil. That part is physics. It's what marketing and bean counters do with it that is snake oil and voodoo.    Stribeck is the relationship between Hersey and the Coefficient of Friction. Within the Hersey Equation if viscosity and viscosity is 'Dependent' on.......heat.......and.......viscosity index or the temperature to viscosity slope.    Specifically Hersey is the viscosity AT THE TEMPERATURE IN THAT LOCATION FOR THAT SLOPE.   Hydrodynamic lubrication exist when the film thickness in the location is 3X the Ra roughness of the surface. This is irrespective of the hardness of the substrate. To obtain that thickness X viscosity is required for Y velocity at Z load. That's a lot of moving parts. It is also impossible to maintain in an ICE but nearly possible with a turbine under constant load.    What does that mean? Error heavy and operate light. Wear is inevitable but the rate of wear and the milage obtainable are a function of prevailing conditions and HABITS. The only penalty is viscous drag and at fractions so low as to be well worth the effort. Double the life, half the manufacturing carbon foot print. Greed is the only impediment.    The materials generated by SwRI are the RESULT not an estimation or a hypothesis.    Don't delude yourself sir, EV's have as many pitfalls as ICE's. We just don't know what they are yet and it will take longer to sort as MARKETING and GREEDY CEO's have had more time to polish the turd they are selling.
    • You can always count on greed to prey on ignorance and stupidity.    Friend bought a 2019 Ford Flex and asked me about using Valvoline R&P 5W30 in it. Told him give the miles on it and the fact it wasn't yet using oil that it was a good plan. He uses a Valvoline quick change shop for his oil service.   First they tell him that isn't the oil the OEM recommends. He told them he didn't care what the OEM thought. Then they floated the, "But it will void your warranty"    His reply was it's a 2019, there is no warranty and informed them their knowledge of the law was lacking.    Then they tell him 'But it will ruin your motor"!.    Mine to ruin he says. Finally they give in and charge him 150% the semi-syn price    Point it the brainwash is so embedded that even the service industry is drunk on their swill. The public is right behind them. Echoing the same lies on every forum and media platform. If the end goal is indeed EV then I'd say that ship is about built.
    • Diesel hit $6.00 here today at the truck stop.   Payed $2.79 for E85 today too.
