Does Anybody Know How To Take This Apart?

I would like to remove all of the various components off of this GM distributor. The only thing I could figure out was how to remove the rotor! There is a copper cap that has about 15 degrees of freedom to rotate. It seems that perhaps there are 4 tabs that caught the base of something I can't see (sorta like a fish hook).

 

Removing that seems to be the first step...but I don't know.

 

Any help would be excellent. It is off of a 93 4.3L TBI engine.

Why do you want to disassemble it? My 93's went bad and I just replaced it with a new/rebuilt one.

I'm not familiar with that particular type but it is probably similar to the earlier GM HEI distributors that I have disassembled. Remove the two bolts securing the electrical module then drive out the roll pin securing the drive gear to the shaft. Remove the gear and the shaft should then lift out through the top of the unit.

I examined it closely, and it seems that if I take the roll pin and gear out that the shaft will want to come out, BUT that copper ring cap still prevents anything from coming off.

 

This is just what it seems to be. I have not tried it yet. It is too late to bang on it - don't want to wake the neighbors.
