Remote Start Installation

I have purchased a new 2009 Silverado 1/2 ton. The dealer threw in a remote starter package as part of the deal. I have been less than impressed with the service department at this dealership in that past. How complicated is it to add a remote start system? Will the tech have to splice into my existing wiring, or does GM provide quick disconnects for such an add-on? Any drilling or wire pulling required? Throughout the threads on the subject, it appears reprogramming of certain systems is required. Can anyone comment on how complicated that procedure is? Thanks!

Good news,Bad news.....

Good news....It is very easy to install in the GMT900 trucks,No splicing, rewiring,or drilling needed at all,The only thing required is to reprogram the BCM for the new remotes (If your truck is equipped with the remote starter prep-package)

Bad news.....The dealer MUST do this,It is not something you,or anyone else can do,The reason is because the dealer must call GM-TAC with a reprogram security code number,They in-turn give the dealer the needed info. to reprogram your truck for the remote start system to work.

I just added remote start to my 09 gmc, I ordered 17801236 transmitter and had to have to stealer install. The transmitter was around 160 ish and 62 to install. My truck has AP8 (remote vehicle starter prep pkg), you can have the dealer run your vin and print a built sheet to see what you have.

Note: The dealer charge me for two transmitters and I blew a gasket trying to explain that it was a kit...ie like my fog light kit. One part # and two fobs. The lady called my buddy the real parts/ service GUY and I got squared away.

So far works great only had for one day!! But I guess it only works if the truck is locked.

I have the same prep package in my truck (AP8) and am considering installing remote start. Dealer quoted me $195 for the remotes and $150 to install?!? Isn't this just reprogramming the receiver or something? Are they trying to take me for a ride?
