Coolant Leak

Recommended Posts

My '03 HD1500 is leaking coolant, I'm assuming its the waterpump but before I spent the time and $$ to replace it I want to pressurize the system. Advanced Auto has has a pressure tester to lend out but since there is not a "traditional" radiator cap and only a threaded cap on the expansion tank I need an adapter but they do have one. Does anyone know if Stant (or other vendor) that makes an adapter?

Thanks

dunno the answer on the adaptor...

but my 6.0 did the same thing to me last week

ended up being the water pump gasket, had to get it on a lift to see it

If it is the water/coolant pump, you should see fluid on the driveway/garage floor (or wherever you park) directly below the pump area, and you would see some fluid on the exterior of the pump.

I suppose that a pressure test will tell if there is a small hole in the rad or if one of the hose connections is not secure.

Coolant could also be blowing out the intake manifold gasket and sitting on the top of the engine.... or blowing into the cylinders and out the exhaust..... or even worse, could be leaking into your crankcase oil.

Most of the water pumps start with a small leak and drains down the block but burns up before it can hit the ground take a small mirror and look under the pump if its leaking there will be a small build up under it
