Bed Slides

Hey all,

Just came over from the dark side. Last 3 trucks have been Dodge but I'm now waiting on a new GMC CC long box Duramax. Can't wait for it to get here. Dealer says 3-5 weeks...

Anyway does anyone here use a bed slide product in their truck? I'm a contractor and mine will have a cap/topper but I hate crawling in there to get tools and such. Too old for that stuff any more

I'm also thinking of lifting the slide off the bed to over the wheel wells to allow some storage under it for plywood, lumber etc. Any ideas how? Just weld up a frame strong enough to take the weight?

My son and I made one a few years back it worked great but we moved and had to leave it wish I had pictures I will try to figure it out, it was cheap and easy to make.

Thanks for posting that. I've seen a few plans for homemade options but not sure if they would take the torture I put stuff through. What did you use it for? How did it hold up?

I carry about 600 to 800 lbs of tools & I worry about it lasting or dumping the tools onto the ground when it is pulled out.. Would also have to figure out a way to elevate it about 8"

I may go to home built or get some local welder to do something up. Shipping costs to Ontario are gonna kill me on most of the manufactured ones & I would like to hear from someone who has one before I would order anyway

Yeah no problem I used it for camping and regular use Ive had two full camper 30 lb propane tanks, around 150 to 200 pounds of wood and camping gear 3 bikes and had no problem was pretty hard to pull out but was very helpful. Not as much as you said. It held up well tighten it up once in a while and it worked fine, I wish mine could have been elevated like you said. i ended up putting 1x1 wood at the end of the tracks so it wouldnt slide out. sounds like custom would suit you best.
