Chevy Silverado Interceptor

Has anyone else seen or heard of this beast? We had one here on base for a while that I kept drooling over, but it has since disappeared. I have tried to do a search for any information about it but can't find anything on it. I don't know if it was a dealer package or if the owner just did a real nice job on it.

Basically it was a white newer model ('01-'02) extended cab 2 wheel drive Chevy Silverado. It had very nice looking ground effects and a redesigned lower front end with fog lamps. Wheels were not the same as stock Silverado wheels and appeared to be about 17x8.5 or so. They didn't look like catalog wheels, rather just very sporty factory options. It had no badges other than graphics on the rear fenders and tailgate that said "Z?? Interceptor". I can't remember if it was Z72 or Z84 or what, it was Z something unique though. Again, they looked factory, not like cheap aftermarket graphics. It also had chrome exhaust tips. It appeared to be a Chevy answer to the Ford Lightening. Very nice and aggressive looking.

It is possible that the owner did all this but I really don't think that is the case. It looked like a factory or dealer package.

It is most likely a dealer thing or something that the owner did.  Definately not a factory truck.  The only "performance" truck chevy has done is the Silverado SS.  The only factory "interceptor" I have heard of is a police-version of the Chevy Tahoe that is meant to be used by police only.  It had better numbers then the CrownVic, the Camaros, and the Mustangs.  But I don't think they ever got those to a production stage yet, and they certainaly would have all of that stuff you mentioned on them...

YEah, I've seen one, it was a 99-00 ones, judging by the graphics it had. It blew me away too, don't know anything about it though, I also did a search right after I saw it. only info I got was that SilveradoWV(if I remember right) has one living near him. If anyone knows any info, I'm still wanting to know. If I remember correctly, its "ZR4 Interceptor"

now that you mention it... ZR4 does sound right.

It was a sweet looking truck! I wonder if it was only a cosmetic package or if it had some mods under the hood.  It LOOKED pretty #### fast... but then again... so do Hondas with stickers!

Saw it again today, got photos this time. I Left a message on his windshield to get in touch with me so I can get some info on it.

I'll throw the pics up as soon as I get them developed.

I have seen one around here, it does say ZR4 Interceptor. (In a previous post I wasnt sure what this one said, but it is ZR4). This one is the same as described above but it is a dark blue. With the decals red and silver I think. I havent been able to find a description of the ZR4 RPO code, so if anyone has the site where RPO ZR4 is listed let me know, or does the RPO even exist??

D##m, I thought I would be able to get away from trooper trucks forever.  Mabey thats becuase the police trucks around here are ford and dodge.

Trust me, I'd rather throw a bar on top of my Rado and drive that all day vs. the vics we have...too #### tight with the cages in them and me being 6'5 235.

Ok, got pics now, and this ain't no Trooper truck:

Man I love this truck.  The owner hasn't gotten in touch with me yet.  I'm guesing he probably won't.  Oh well.  I wish I knew if anything was done to the motor.  Interior was stock leather as far as I could tell.

That's pretty cool!  I don't really understand.....is that truck customized by the dealer or did the owner do it or what?  Nice pics, thanks!!!

Well if you go back and read the previous posts in this topic it would seem that there are more than one of these rolling around.  Since I can't find a single bit of information about it anywhere... I honestly have no idea where it came from.  I would say it is a dealer option but the sightings aren't all in one local area, so I am guessing there is an aftermarket company out there putting this package on Silverados in the same way SLP put the Firehawk package on Firebirds and SALEEN put thier package on the Mustang.

Well I am a new member here, but I have been a member on other BBS systems on the net. I was looking through this post and decided to search for the ZR4. Like everyone else, I came up empty handed and decided to contact GM, GM website,a person sent me a reply on it basically saying that he searched for the model but could not find it, and suggested the silverado SS. I replied back saying they needed to put the 8.1 :jester: in it. I also asked why they cancelled the Typhoon/Cyclone and he said that they were not popular enough. Anyway I included the emails if you all wanted to read them, the messages start from the bottom, sorry:

Dear Mr. Jones,

Thank you for contacting Chevrolet. Our option levels and features are dictated

by public demand, and while we strive to please our customers it is sometimes

not feasible to continue marketing a certain configuration of vehicle if it

proves unpopular.

We apologize for your frustration. There are many factors that influence the

production of a model line including availability of materials and consumer

demand. Frequently, changes are made during the production year that effect the

availability of options as a result of such factors. Chevrolet reserves the

right to make these changes and unfortunately, we are unable to supply the

features or colors specified, once such changes have been instituted.

I have forwarded your suggestion to the appropriate department.

If you have any additional questions or if you would like to receive product

information on any of our Chevrolet vehicles, you may write back or contact our

Thank you for responding so quickly, I have heard of the SS, but I wish it

had the 8.1L engine. Why did GM cut the Typhoon/ Cyclone vehicles? It would

be awesome if they came out with them again.

Thanks,

Tom

Well the owner still hasn't gotten in touch with me.  I guess he want's to keep it a secret.  I'll call a Chevy dealer tomorrow and see what I can dig up.

    • Does anyone know if the GM 85628205 and 85628208 are interchangeable?   The 85628205 is an assembly of the seals mated to a thin metal shim and the 85628208 appear to be just the rubber seals without being an assembly. The reason I am asking is that I'm installing a PPE Thermal Bypass Valve and it doesn't come with seals.
    • Thanks @newdude, guess I'll keep looking.  Test driving so many trucks that have obvious things broken, I'm thinking "if they couldn't even be bothered to fix the power seat," what else is broken".   Just drove a 2021 where the power seat motor was grinding/binding and wouldn't do anything but make a terrible sound.   An owner that puts dents on the bumper, doesn't fix a seat motor, and had spotty service intervals (along with missing major services) doesn't give me the best of confidence.   Amazed at the number of people that will finance a $60k+ truck, run it into the ground, then trade with a loan balance (every single one had "loan/lien reported" on the CARFAX at the last year of registration).
    • Not true! I have been runing them since 2006 F250! suspension component that works as a sway bar, a traction bar, and a helper spring points directly to the RoadActive Suspension (RAS) kit. Works as a sway bar, a traction bar, and a helper spring.
    • Here's a starter kit:    CC Jensen, a Danish oil testing Concern gives us the following guidelines:   ISO 14/12/10 Very Clean Oil ISO 16/14/11 Clean Oil ISO 17/15/12 Lightly Contaminated ISO 19/17/14 New Oil ISO 22/20/17 Very Contaminated and not suitable for any service.   In addition CC Jensen gives a table showing how engine life is increased by cleaning up the oil. For example cleaning the oil from 19/17/14 to 13/11/8 will extend motor life by a factor of 6X.   But even cleaning it two “Life Extension Classes” will double motor life. So perhaps giving those classes would be useful:   21/19/16 20/18/15 19/17/14 18/16/13 17/15/12 16/14/11 15/13/10 14/12/9 13/11/8   *************************************   https://testoil.com/program-management/setting-iso-cleanliness-targets/   Third paragraph from the bottom will give a starting point.    Your next question should be, okay 10um at what Beta ratio and the answer is in the graph Beta 75.   Then the next question is what is your chosen filters profile? (Purolator PL series below) The red dot is Beta 75. This was the information I obtained from MANN a few years ago. So the best filters, Purolator One, AMSOIL EA, FRAM Ultra, Royal Purple, Bosch Premium should get a doubling engine life over filters like Purolator L, any service filter from any quick lube, WIX, NAPA, STP, Mobil 1, Purolator BOSS.    And as noted by CC Jensen a 2-5 micron @ Beta 200 bypass system has the capability of a six fold improvement. AMSOIL has such a system as does Donaldson.       Now having said all that testing is the touchstone. Test the oil NEW and test it with your chosen filter. Then test over milage. Do the work, get the result. But understand this in NOT absolute BECAUSE this is one factor in isolation.   Example:    A valve spring supplier can state that with cam X and a valve train of Y grams the valves will not float to 7K rpm. is that true if the builder choose a system 20 grams over limit? Common sense must be used and limits understood.
