Got Me A Brand New Truck!

Well, not really, but is sure seems like it!!!

This is the thread some of you have been waiting for.

I got my Nelson Tune installed today, here is how it went and the results (so far).

1. It was a little bit of a pain to figure out the d**n connectors, but luckily I am a Mechanical Engineer and I figured it out. The directions were worthless and no diagrams. They do NOT simply unplug. But after about 10 mins, I had them out.

2. Went to start truck and....nothing, not even a click. Kinda figured this would happen. I did the security "Pass-Key" procedure and it fired right up on the 2nd try. Procedure called for repeating the steps 3 times and it would start on the 4th attempt.

3. Idle relearn: Idle was a little rough and it even killed the first time I started it with no throttle, then after a minute or so, she smoothed right out and purred like a kitten.

4. SES light remains lit though and I am assuming I need a Crank Relearn, which I intended to do regardless. No biggie.

5. Remote start does not work though, I have a call into Nelson to see what's up here. I have heard others say this happened to them too. Hopefully it doesn't mean I have to send the ECM back for this to be fixed.

Now for the good stuff!!!

If someone had done this for me, I would have thought it was NOT my truck. This drives NOTHING like it did stock or even with the Edge Evo I had. NO COMPARISON!!!!

Guys..seriously, if you own a NBS truck, regardless of which engine, GET A CUSTOM TUNE!!! Do NOT get a handheld, I did and I can tell you first hand, there is simply no comparing them. I have been reading this from others on PT.net for some time and it got me to try it and my expectations were there, but this far exceeded them 1000%.

Oh, and one more thing I noticed when I pulled into my garage after my test ride.....

I got out and I could smell this nasty smell, kinda like burning rubber??? Anyone have any idea what that might be?:)

That's good to here, I'm glad it worked out well for you! What exactly did it change, and what makes you say that it's that much better than the edge programmer and stock? Power increases? throttle response?

Glad it worked out for you . 0-60, how many seconds? Also does the engine sound different?

Dude...Please shrink that sig pic. It's huge.

It changed everything!! Shifts, throttle response, lag is GONE....everything. Like I said, it's like a completely different truck. The Edge did improve the shifts and throttle response somewhat, but NOTHING like this. I cannot even begin to explain the differences, it is night and day.

For example: I pulled away from a stop sign onto a 2-lane highway with light throttle (I would never punch it from a stop while turning, that will blow-up my G80 Locker), once I was straightened out, going about 20mph, I punched it.......BOTH rear wheels broke loose for about 2 secs....I woul dhave loved to have a snapshot of my face when that happened, that thing launched like a fricken ROCKET!!! And remember, we are talking about a nearly 6000 lb crewcab truck here. I don't do burnouts and probably hardly ever will, but I had to try it. I stopped on the shoulder and waited until there was no traffic, turned off Traction Control, revved to about 1500 RPM (light powerbrake just to come off idle speed) and punched it and again, both rear wheels broke loose and would not stop until I let off the throttle some. It did at least a 100 ft burnout before I backed her off. Believe me, I know this is hard on the drivetrain and therefore I will not be doing this often (if ever), but I had to try it. With Traction Control on, of course this does not happen as the computer still cuts power when it senses wheel spin and she dogs like usual, but turn that off and she is UNLEASHED!!!

I have no idea, I have no way of timing it. But with the Edge, I got a best of 6.49 secs and that was a "different" truck. I would guess I am d**n close to 6 secs, if not under. But what's really impressive is the downshifts when you punch it from a roll...holy s**t!!!

I am the kid, so I don't think I could sell myself (hm... ). And I am selling a lot of music equipment. Anybody need some bass effects pedals? :)

Quick Update:

I just now learned that anytime a SES light is on, the remote start will not function. So, once I get my Crank Relearn, all will be good!!!

I have also heard that until I get the Crank Relearn, the performance will not be optimum, I have a hard time believeing it could even get better!!! Plus Nelson also told me that performance will get better as the new ECM/TCM Learns over the first several days of driving.

I feel like a little kid with a brand new toy that's better than all the neighbor kid's toys.
