Help Radio In The "locked" Mode

I have a 2005 Silverado 1500 WT Extcab 4x4 that came with the basic AM/FM stereo. Found a 6 Disc AM/FM stereo that came out of a Avalanch. Radio powers up but shows "Locked". No surprise that it is equiped with anti-theft. The previous owner said he doesn't remember having a radio code.

I tried to pull the internal code by directions of pushing and holding the preset buttons 1 and 4 or 2 and 3 for about ten seconds to make the first three number appear. Then I was to push the am/fm button to make the next three appear. Problem is that pushing and holding the 1/4 2/3 buttons did not reveal the first three numbers. No change from the display of: time and "Locked". I tried other preset combonations with no change. :jester: These directions were obtained from the internet.

I have unfortunately invested several hundred dollars in the radio and no use from it other than looks great in the dash.

Please, some of you knowledgable folks help this now poor musicless poster.

Going from memory here.... I pushed in wrong code once and radio "Locked". If I remember correctly, you could not retry code for 2-3 hours. I'll go back and check my notes, got them somewhere.

http://lt1tech.com/cgi-bin/ultimateb...c;f=5;t=000228 you should be able to find what you need using this link . post contains what you need i'm pretty sure. its a link to another forums post regarding locked radio. just read

Thanks for this information Extrempickup. Unfortunately I am either doing something wrong or it is not working. I did get the stereo to play breifly until you turn the key to the run position. Once this happens the stereo locks. I also think this stereo is a RDS radio. I wonder if this makes a difference in the procedure.

Is this something I can solve? Or do I need the dealership to get big bucks. :jester:

dealer can unlock it but i think its about 50$ or something. try it again or try calling gm up, sometimes it requires a code, im pretty sure there is actually a number you need off the radio and then theres a code and a procedure to unlock it

http://www.w-body.com/forum/index.php/topic,31841.0.html i think this has the same list of procedures but it may be clearer. sometimes its just error when you try to get these things going. you definately need to call GM to get the code for it im pretty sure and you have to remove it to know which code they have to give you

I believe the radios starting around 99 are, for security, are coded to the VIN. This may be your prodlem. I think this is what the dealer told me about my 2000. Mark.

2003 is probably right. I have both a 00 silverado and 03 S-10.Mark.

Thnaks for all the replies! I'll take to the dealership this week. I called earlier and the service rep quoted me $47.00 give or take.

You all are probably right cause the radio is a 2006. I noticed the sound was not as loud when the new radio was playing in the acc position.

Since my truck did not come with this radio and a amplifier, can I add a regular stereo amp to this system with buying/installing an additional factory wiring harness? Anyone have an opinion on this.

Also anyone know whar the second plug Smaller 12-14 pin is for on the back of the radio? Thanks folks.
