Bluetooth Options For 2008 Silverado

I have a 2008 Silverado LT1 with the non-bose system and no navigation.

 

We're AT&T wireless customers with no interest in changing to Verison to take advantage of the OnStar hands free system.

 

So... my question is...

 

What are you suggestions for adding hands free calling to my truck? I want it to be as integrated as possible, but I'm willing to make concessions to avoid placing any visible input devices in the cab. My only firm request is to be able to hear that phone over the stereo speakers. I don't really need any fancy voice dialing or the need to use any existing buttons in the truck to control the calls. I'd prefer it to be bluetooth to avoid the need to have another wire running across the cab. If anyone could get specific product recommendations, I'd appreciate it.

You'll just want to search around for BT hands free cell kits for various vehicles, such as the Parrot systems. You may also want to check out Costal Tech. They have a lot of stuff for the 900 series, including an adapter that easily integrates your separate BT kit (ie. Parrot) with the Onstar speaker phone system.

Does anyone have a suggestion on what is the simplest bluetooth kit that it would work with (I don't mind continuing to use the phone to dial)?

 

The phone (for reference) is an AT&T/HTC Tilt/8925

 

Does anyone have personal experience with the coastaltech pins and bluetooth kits? Will I still need to run a power wire for the bluetooth kit?

This is the one I have it's has a battery that needs to be recharged but works good. Speaker isn't that great.

well the bluetooth lockpick comes with all the power lines and everything you need, you just supply the bluetooth kit. if it helps at all i know a guy that has one and is wanting to get rid of it. you could probably get it for $80 or less if ya want pm me and i will talk to him...

For 2009, GM will be offering Bluetooth capability on the HD trucks via Onstar Generation 8.

The 2008 vehicles have Onstar Generation 7. A possible solution would be the capability to

upgrade Onstar from Generation 7 to 8. Keep an open eye to this possible option.

 

The hardware soluitons via Coastal Tech and their associated Bluetooth adaptor is a possibility.

The information sheets says the blue fusion will work on GM factory radios, but must have satellite radio. Does not say anthing about navigation units. My assumption is that it will work on none Nav units.

It appears like the GMX-320 LockPick. It would be nice to reuse the Onstar microphone in the ceiling rather than adding another.

It looks like the Coastal Tech OnStar lockpick is the solution for me.

 

My decision now is on which bluetooth device. The Motorola devices look applicable, but I'd really rather have no external control unit. Ideally, I'd like to have something similar in fucnationality to a bluetooth ear bud. I'd like to use my phone for all of the functions, and just have the bluetooth there as a slave. I suppose I could just hide the control module for the Motorola car kit, but does anyone else have any suggestions.

I put in Scosches univeral BT handsfree kit, man that thing is easy as pie. The separate mic is long enough that I mounted it on my visor, ran it down the pillar, under the dash to the glovebox with enough slack to tie up. It uses RCA cables to tie into your aftermarket deck and comes through crystal clear. On top of that the unit comes with a BT transmitter for other devices so if you DAP/PMP you can transmit through BT rather than the crappy FM transmiters. I paid $90 for mine from Best Buy.

 

I should also mention that I'm using a Palm Treo750 (Windows Smartphone) and it connects automatically and flawlessly. I can't say that though for the Pioneer BT unit that I had paid $200 for to connect into my Premier deck. That thing is crap!
