Anyone using the 400W bed power output?
redwngr replied to Street Queen's topic in 2019-2026 Silverado 1500 & Sierra 1500
Typical 115V plug is on a 15A breaker -- so about 1700W. I don't understand why people are surprised that 400W won't run power tools. -

3.0L Duramax - who owns or has driven one
redwngr replied to redwngr's topic in Engines & Drivetrain (V8, Duramax, TurboMax)
Warmer weather also moves fuel blends towards summer style -- which improves fuel economy. -
The dolly the tow truck brings runs on the ground and carries one set of the trucks wheels. The tow truck lifts the other end of the vehicle, so the other set of wheels is not on the ground. Flat deck is not required. Pic is not a pickup, but demonstrates 'dolly towing' The two wheel dolly type that is sometimes used behind a pickup or rv puts us back in the don't do it discussion.

Certainly not. But I'm pretty sure you got my reasoning backwards.

What wheels/tires and air pressure? (didn't look it up, but am assuming LT has optional sizes available) They have significant impact on ride. Last 1500 I had was on factory 20's, but also had a set of factory 18" take-offs that were used in winter. Winter set-up provided better ride, even if noisier with a blockier tread pattern. Summer set-up provided better cornering and fuel mileage, but rode noticeably firmer. All that said, 1500's have a relatively bouncy ride. One of the reasons I'm back in a 2500.

The only come from the factory (on 2020's) if the necessary option code is added to the order. PTT Trailer Tire Pressure Monitor Sensors, includes set of 4 sensors. Sensor functionality requires (U1D) In-vehicle Trailering App to be ordered with the vehicle and installed by the factory. Sensors will be shipped loose with the truck and will need to be installed on trailer by customer. System is capable of monitoring up to 6 wheels. Additional or replacement sensors are available through GM Accessories They not standard on any trim.

That's interesting, cuz that's not what the online copy says. Just says: The vehicle does not need an elaborate break-in. But it will perform better in the long run if you follow these guidelines: . Keep the vehicle speed at 88 km/h (55 mph) or less for the first 805 km (500 mi). . Do not drive at any one constant speed, fast or slow, for the first 805 km (500 mi). Do not make full-throttle starts. Avoid downshifting to brake or slow the vehicle. . Avoid making hard stops for the first 322 km (200 mi) or so. During this time the new brake linings are not yet broken in. Hard stops with new linings can mean premature wear and earlier replacement. Follow this breaking-in guideline every time you get new brake linings. . Do not tow a trailer during break-in. See Trailer Towing pg 292 for the trailer towing capabilities of the vehicle and more information. Following break-in, engine speed and load can be gradually increased. Not a thing about changing the oil after 500 miles... But I'm sure the post was just wanting to get those that don't rtfm excited...

3.0 Liter Duramax oil temps
redwngr replied to Kkajvr6's topic in Engines & Drivetrain (V8, Duramax, TurboMax)
The truck probably has it's own engine oil temp display. 2020 Acadia gasser has one. Maybe some of the other 3.0L owners will pipe in with what temps they are seeing. Oil temp is one of the things they use to determine if the auto start/stop will function. Engine computer program will be programmed to give a warning if temp is too high. This engine has TWO engine oil temp sensors --- according to the 'information' bulletin from last fall . (and about 7 engine coolant temperature sensors) Cooling System Overview The Duramax® 3.0L utilizes GM’s advanced cooling system strategy known as Active Thermal Management (ATM). ATM distributes coolant through the engine in a targeted manner, sending heat where it’s needed to warm up the engine, thereby reducing friction. It promotes quicker heating of the passenger compartment as needed and engine cooling when needed during high power operation. The system uses a conventional engine-driven coolant pump. The ECM controls the complete ATM system using feedback from various sensors. The engine has numerous engine coolant temperature (ECT) sensors placed at specific locations throughout the cooling system as follows: – Engine Block Coolant Temperature Sensor – Engine Cylinder Head Coolant Temperature Sensor – Engine Inlet Coolant Temperature Sensor – Engine Outlet Coolant Temperature Sensor – Radiator Outlet Coolant Temperature Sensor – Heater Core Inlet Coolant Temperature Sensor – Heater Core Outlet Coolant Temperature Sensor Additional sensors used by the ECM to control the ATM system are: – Engine Oil Temperature Sensor 1 and Sensor 2 – Transmission Oil Temperature Sensor – Control Valve Sensors -
Just like the 6.6 dmax, the turbo, scr and dpf make it quiet enough that there is no muffler or resonator. On the 6.6 the emission stuff is under the truck. On the 3.0 it's in the engine bay. Visual inspection will require opening the hood....

3.0L Duramax - who owns or has driven one
redwngr replied to redwngr's topic in Engines & Drivetrain (V8, Duramax, TurboMax)
Video interview of one of the GM engineers suggested part of it is better aerodynamics on the silvy. The other part is the way the tests are done. EPA requires that if an option is purchased on a certain % of vehicles that the impact (weight?) of that content be included in the testing. Sierra's, on average, have more added content and/or higher trim -- and that impacts the epa rating. -
2020 3>0 Duramax Exhaust Brake
redwngr replied to Powderman9's topic in 2019-2026 Silverado 1500 & Sierra 1500
Bonus is that turning tow/hail on also disables the auto stop/start. From; https://gm-techlink.com/?p=12048 3.0L Diesel Engine The diesel exhaust brake function on the 3.0L diesel engine is part of the Tow/Haul Mode Grade Braking system. Tow/Haul Mode Grade Braking is only enabled while the Tow/Haul Mode is selected. On vehicles equipped with Driver Mode Control, Tow/Haul Mode can be activated/deactivated by turning the Driver Mode knob to the left. (Fig. 11) When selected, the Tow/Haul Mode symbol will illuminate in the instrument cluster. Fig. 11 If the vehicle is turned off with Tow/Haul Mode active for less than four hours, Tow/Haul will remain active after the vehicle has been turned on again. Otherwise, the vehicle will start in Normal Mode. For vehicles without Driver Mode Control, press the Tow/Haul button on the center of the instrument panel. TIP: The Automatic Engine Stop/Start system is unavailable when the Tow/Haul Mode is active. -
Wireless CarPlay/Android Auto
redwngr replied to spizike9's topic in 2019-2026 Silverado 1500 & Sierra 1500
Wireless CarPlay is being supported by Apple starting ''recently' (not sure exactly when) Yes, from the initial release of Carplay, until very recently, it would not work without the cable connection. Presumably the vehicle must also support wireless Carplay for it to work, so many/most vehicles will require an update (if one is available, otherwise SOL). Yes, phones can play music wirelessly using just the Bt connection -- but as questioned above bt music streaming is not the same as running Carplay or AA. Music can be streamed with just the Bt connection but that is not the same as running AA or CP, which have always required a calbe connection -- until recently. -

Trailer Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TTPMS)
redwngr replied to KC10Chief's topic in Modifications & Accessories
If you have a complete build sheet, the order code you're looking for is PTT is the code for the sensor set. Additional or replacement sensors are available through GM Accessories On LT - Requires (PCM) Convenience Package II or (ZL6) Advanced Trailering Package. On SLE - Requires (ZL6) ProGrade Trailering System or (PDQ) Preferred Package. Not available with (ZW9) pickup bed delete. On SLT - Not available with (ZW9) pickup bed delete. Higher trims have no restriction. Lower trims - not available. -
Shouldn't regen any different. The change is in the monitoring of the frequency of regens. If it is regening too often the current programming MAY not be notifying. FWIW, it doesn't say 'voluntary' on the GM Canada notices, even though the Cdn emission stuff is usually done the same as in the US. This time, the GM Canada notice say it is 'in accordance with the requirements of the Canadian Environmental Protection Act'. Got the second notice this week. This time saying they are now ready to perform the update. Has the same emission recall number as before, but also has an Environment and Climate Change Canada Recall #

Colour Matched Wheel Arch Mouldings
redwngr replied to cdnSpinalTap's topic in 2020-2026 Silverado HD & Sierra HD
Might depend on what colour your truck is. If they sold you colour match for a colour the factory doesn't supply, then they planned on painting them. Either way, the dealer installs them. A capable body shop should be able to paint them without peeling if it's not a factory supported colour. SF6 LPO, Body color wheel arch moldings, (dealer-installed) SLE - Requires exterior paint (GAN) Quicksilver Metallic, (GAZ) Summit White, (GBA) Onyx Black, (GJI) Dark Sky Metallic or (GCI) Carbon Black Metallic. Not available with (ZW9) pickup bed delete, (VQK) front and rear Black molded splash guards, LPO or (PDH) GMC Interior Protection Package, LPO. SLT - Requires exterior paint (GAN) Quicksilver Metallic, (GAZ) Summit White, (G1W) White Frost Tricoat, (GBA) Onyx Black, (GJI) Dark Sky Metallic or (GCI) Carbon Black Metallic. Not available with (ZW9) pickup bed delete, (VQK) front and rear Black molded splash guards, LPO or (PDH) GMC Interior Protection Package, LPO. AT4 - Requires exterior paint (GAN) Quicksilver Metallic, (GAZ) Summit White, (GBA) Onyx Black, (GJI) Dark Sky Metallic or (GCI) Carbon Black Metallic. Not available with (VQK) front and rear Black molded splash guards, LPO or (PDH) GMC Interior Protection Package, LPO. Denali - Requires exterior paint (GAN) Quicksilver Metallic, (GAZ) Summit White, (G1W) White Frost Tricoat, (GBA) Onyx Black, (GJI) Dark Sky Metallic or (GCI) Carbon Black Metallic. No No No!!! Not in a 6.6L Dexos is NOT the spec for the 6.6L Duramax!! 2020 Duramax 6.6L supplement calls for 15W40 CJ-4 or CK-4 Manual suggests 5W-40 for long periods of operation belwo 0*F There are many sources of 15W-40 CJ-4 or CK-4, as that is probably the most common engine oil spec in the diesel world. FWIW, 2020 Duramax 3.0L supplement calls for 0W-20 meeting the Dexos D specification. DexosD approved oils here:https://www.gmdexos.com/brands/dexosd/index.html (currently there are only 2 on the approved list)

Do you keep your tires at full capacity? 80psi
redwngr replied to FirstAscent's topic in 2020-2026 Silverado HD & Sierra HD
My dealer changed mine for me too. After the change, the phone app shows the new programmed number as 'recommended'. (When loaded and running higher pressures, I don't get the monitor reprogrammed) FWIW, the 2500's are typically 70 rear, instead of the 80 rear that is typcal on the 3500's. -
GM diagnostic procedure seems to indicate they are taking the position that it is a characteristic of the new (for 2020) fan drive. Kinda like the their position on the typewriter tick.
