Weight is a factor when accelerating and when climbing. Aero (frontal area, and wind) is the factor all the time -- and this THE factor when on level cruise. Aero is also the reason speed is a big factor.

I suspect you are right. But doesn't apply to the HD's. (ya I know, this is the 1500 section) One of the mpg videos about the 3.0L was talking about the rating difference between the sierra and silvarado. part of the explanation is that the fed regs require the weight of an option be included for testing if the 'take rate' for the option is over a certain percentage. Sierra's typically sell with more content so higher weight used. That and slightly less aerodynamic and 3.0 in sierra ends up with a lower rating. I would guess the regs also require the weight used for the rating must also include a certain % of max fuel weight. From time in tier one auto suppliers I do know that if you can save them weight on any vehicle, it is a big deal. Better economy ratings sell vehicles(for some). There is also the fleet cafe thing that needs to be met.

Starting with the new chassis in 2011 long and standard bed trucks both came with the 36 gallon tank. (I went form a long bed '04 to a standard bed '10 and was surprised how much I missed the larger tank. They fixed that in '11 and I quickly upgraded. They '18 2500 till has a 36 in the 6.5' box and is the one being run in the previous post))

With the right weather conditions I've had frost on the inside of the windshield -- but not very often. The right combo of internal moisture and weather conditions and it appears.

Moisture on the floor mats? Anytime the humidity inside is high that can happen - to any vehicle. Moist air gets close to cold glass. Air temp reduces to dew point and moisture condenses on glass. If it's cold enough it can freeze. Lower inside humidity and/or less temperature swing will reduce/stop the problem.

I didn't see reference to it (did I miss it? page number?) in the 3.0L diesel supplement I downloaded, so wondered it was automatic. May or may not be useful to you, but this is the what the (2020) supplement for the 6.6L says about the 'elevated idle' uses: (earlier 6.6's were similar) This 'elevated idle' is standard on 6.6L duramax. Elevated Idle The engine has a cold temperature high idle feature which elevates the engine idle speed from base idle to 1050 to 1100 rpm when outside temperatures are below 0 °C (32 °F), and the engine coolant temperature is below 65 °C (150 °F). This feature enhances heater performance by raising the engine coolant temperature faster. To turn this feature on or off, see Vehicle Personalization 0 13. When the engine is started, it will slowly ramp up to the high idle speed after a delay of a few seconds up to approximately two minutes. For this method to work properly there must be no throttle or brake pedal faults. The engine idle speed will return to normal once the following conditions are met: . Engine coolant temperature reaches 65 °C (150 °F). . Air intake temperature reaches 0 °C (32 °F). The high idle speed will be temporarily interrupted and the engine speed will return to normal if any of the following conditions occur: . The brake pedal is applied. . The accelerator pedal is pressed. . The transmission is shifted out of P (Park) or N (Neutral). . Vehicle speed is detected. Once these inputs are removed, the engine idle speed will slowly ramp back up to high idle after the normal delay, if the conditions for engine coolant temperature and air intake temperature are still met. There are separate instructions for the optional Fast Idle system -- but basically, if ordered, it is run by the cruise buttons. (I haven't seen any mention in the order guide about a Fast Idle option on a 1500) 2020 6.6 dmax shows this extra entry to the climate and air quality section:: Climate and Air Quality Select and the following may display: . OP has a 2.7L turbo gasser....

Does that truck have the shutters and are they working? Are others running winter fronts up there?

On 6.6L diesel there is an elevated idle function that is automatic -- so it will engage after remote start. It is a standard item. It will warm both engine and trans.. Does things like dragging torque converter and engine fan to create more load/heat. There is also an optional 'high idle' function available that is manually operated. Gives higher speed, but does not do the heat generating extras. It appears that the high idle option (UF3) is available on both 6.6's. 6.6L dmax has a bunch of info about the 'elevated idle' function. If it's not in the 3.0 supplement, perhaps it's not available -- or they have made it automatic and it cannot be disabled. On 6.6 it will run the idle up to about 1100rpm. It will only function below 32*F ambient and below about 160*F coolant. (also requires not throttle or brake. zero speed and transmission not in gear) There is a menu item to disable/enable. Most leave it enabled, since it only kicks in the cold anyway. Does your 3.0 idle up on a cold start at below freezing temps?

For 2020, the 10 speed is available on SLE. Elevation, SLT, AT4 and Denali. Not available on base Sierra. MQB Transmission, 10-speed automatic, electronically controlled with overdrive and tow/haul mode. Includes Cruise Grade Braking and Powertrain Grade Braking SLE and Elevation - Included and only available with (L84) 5.3L EcoTec3 V8 engine on 4WD models or (LM2) Duramax 3.0L Turbo-Diesel I6 engine. SLT and Denali - Included and only available with (L84) 5.3L EcoTec3 V8 engine on 4WD models, (L87) 6.2L EcoTec3 V8 engine or (LM2) Duramax 3.0L Turbo-Diesel I6 engine. On AT4 the 10 speed is standard.

Facing the wind or in still air? At those temps, does it run up to the normal warm weather temp when driven? If the gauge markings are 'linear' that's close to 185. No location given, but how long do the -20*C and below temps last where the truck lives?

Refers to the internal designation for the new generation/new body style that started in 2019. There were also 2019 double cabs in the old body style during the change-over process. Your 2017 is a K2 Before that there was GMT900, before that the GMT800 (which was the first ones to use the hydroformed front rails in the frame) Before that, different frame supplier and the 400 series.... Fwiw, GM refers to paint colours by the order code. (RPO code) Sometimes chev and gmc (and the other divisions) will use the same paint colour, and same rpo code, but label it with a different name. It's common for the shade of the colour to change every few years, and some colours are one year or part year colours. In any case, correct colour matching is done by the RPO code (order code). Pictures often GMC calls GJI Dark Sky Metallic Chev calls GJI Shadow Gray Metallic So this thread could have been called Dark Sky Metallic / Shadow Gray Metallic GJI wasn't available on 2017. Is yours 'Graphite Metallic'? If so, it's RPO code is GPA. (GMC called GPA Dark Slate Metallic) It's no longer available. The 2017 should have the label in the glove box that lists the RPO codes. They have moved the info to a QR code on the door post --- that can be read using a phone app. Of course any dealer (or gm chat / social media) can also run the vin and get a list of 'as built' codes.

1500 didn't get it the first year (2019) with the new body style either..... 1500 has it available for 2020 ... so maybe there is hope for HD for 2021? Fwiw, on 1500 it's not standard. It's available on the higher trims. The Check Engine MIL also may be illuminated. Fig. 12 Currently, an engine calibration in the Engine Control Module (ECM) will falsely set DTC P0111 (Intake Air Temperature (IAT) Sensor 1 Performance), which occurs when the engine block heater is used in ambient temperatures above 0°F/–18°C. As a result, the cooling system will go into remedial action and turn on the cooling fans at 100%. The remedial action will continue until the engine goes through a six hour cold soak. If this condition is found, clear the DTC and return the vehicle to the customer. Do not perform any further diagnosis or replace any related components. An updated calibration will be available shortly. Also inform the customer to avoid engine block heater use in temperatures above 0°F/–18°C. Or more. Which is why it's so hard to compare different trims by looking at 2 trucks. Near impossible to know what was standard on the trims and what was optional. If a person had enough knowledge to know what was standard/optional on the two, then they wouldn't need to make a side-by-side comparison.

RST and LTtrailboss are postioned between LT and LTZ Traditional LT= SLE and LTZ=SLT Elevation is between SLE and SLT So, if you consider Elevation to be like RST, then the answer is yes. The AT4 is positioned between the SLT and Denali, which would be like being between LTZ and High Country. At the end of the day, the are all just different GM trims. 14 trims in all, for the 1500 series pickups. The chassis are the same for both divisions.
