GM doesn't care. There is no bad publicity, yet. What this lady needs to do is give the video to the local news. Maybe the network will put it out nationally. GM's tactic is to ignore and minimize. Think of the ignition switches... All these car companies are like this.

Wow. I feel your pain...

I think the death count was in the low teens for the ignition switches. It's now over 120. So far I haven't heard of any deaths for steering. I don't think they pay much attention until the death toll is in double digits. I couldn't see shit out of my Silverado at night. "Your good" is not the answer for something like that. None of these companies really care. Chrysler has vehicles rolling out of park, Ford had vehicles dropping out park into reverse. Toyota had the unintended acceleration. Nothing is flawless. The problem is they all avoid the issue at first until they are called on the carpet by the NTSB.

Software updates are pesky things now a days. It's possible that a software update could fix, but I really think something is killing the electrical system. I think that is why you get all the warnings as the network dies and sometimes it extends to the engine controls. Just to rule out anything in the steering assembly, find a big parking lot and start doing circles. Slowly tighten the circle until you're at full steering wheel lock. Go both ways. If you don't get anything there, go back to where it does happen. Try it over and over again, but with different things on/off. Heater, blower, radio, headlights, heated steering wheel, etc. And see if any of that changes anything. Anything unusual, odd, different about the location that it does happen at? Anything cell phone towers or anything? Note time of day, all that. If you can provide the shop with anything useful, it could save yourself some money or you could figure it out.

Glad it's a different truck.

The 14 Silverado LTZ I had kind of did this, but it was only when it was really cold, below freezing. Usually it was just a slight pull to the right. When it was really cold I would have wrestle it back to drive straight. If I let go of the wheel it would go back to quarter turn left. Eventually the steering gear was replaced, which seemed to fix the problem. I don't know how long term the fix was. Word of note though, the steering gear was redesigned sometime late 14 or early 15. The mechanic mentioned that to me after they changed it out. After the new steering gear, the pull was gone and the binding, but the truck was all over the place. No idea on the truck dying. The system is electric. Maybe a short dropping the entire system to zero voltage? Figure it would blow a fuse or something first, depends on the fuse type. Can you duplicate the speed, angle and pitch somewhere else to see if it will do it again? It's not blue is it?

Cruise control stopped working
Graphic replied to [email protected]'s topic in 2014-2018 Silverado 1500 & Sierra 1500
Not 100 percent on this, but I believe the brake switch has 2 sets of contacts in it, one for the brake lights, one for the cruise control cancellation. Switch should be just above the brake pedal. -
Hmmm.... I wonder what type of sensors they are.

In our camper, we use a product called Cab Fresh. You should be able to get it locally. Our previous pop up was litterally destroyed by mice. Since then we have always put Cab Fresh in side our current camper. Not one mouse yet. We live in the sticks, no garage. The camper is old, so we are not talking about a new unit with great seals. Cab Fresh is good stuff and the aroma is nice. All natural, piney sort of scent. I also use it in the shed around the mower where the mice like to build next up in the engine cowling. I just place it on top of the engine.

This is a non-issue for GM unfortunetly.
-
Ultimately, yes. I can see a little rust. I am sure that most owners would accept it without too much fuss. My main issue is GM telling me it's "normal." If I can crawl under my wife's 2010 Avalanche and it looks a little better after 100,000 miles than mine at 8,000 I am going to take issue with it. It is logical to assume that there is or was a difference in some of the frames either not getting cleaned prior to dipping or a problem with the dip coating itself. A company should just own up to it. That is how you keep longtime customers and make them happy.
-
Yes. And the issue caused me a lot of second thoughts, but I switched anyway. I really wanted to love that truck. It was my very first new one.
-
They paint them. I have 8000 miles on my Ram and the frame looks pretty much the same as new. This is the same mileage I traded the Silverado in at. I am sure the Ram has issues that will creep up, but so far so good in my case.
-
I was under the impression that GM dipped the frames at the factory... That it was part of their process. Looking at my own when I had still had it you could tell there was no real adhesion to the frame by the wax. GM has been doing this wax for years. My 08 looked good, the 2010 Avalanche my wife owns looked good, the 2014 was literally flaking off. Something in the materials or the process changed. I don't think the wax will last forever, but I did expect it to last more than 8000 miles. It wasn't as bad as others have shown pictures of, but bad enough after 1 winter I wanted it fixed. Got the "O hell son, that's normal" from the dealer. After everything else, I was done at that point.
-
You should take to the dealer and see their response. Basically, I was told it was normal... Long back story, but that was basically it for me with the truck and with GM. If this is the only problem you have, take it in and see if they will repair. It is under the 10 year/100,000 corrosion protection part of the warranty. At least that's what I think.

2015 Silverado ticking noise coming from bottom of engine
Graphic replied to aekdbhill's topic in Troubleshooting & Recalls
I discounted the injectors because of your first post. I am wary of your second post. Might listen to a counple more to confirm it sounds like the others. Mine ticked too. Odd sound but you get used to it. -
When you have the defroster on the AC runs by default. At least it did on mine. Remote start fires up the defrosters when cold, so the AC was running. This blows dry air on the windshield to get it defrosted faster.

2015 Silverado ticking noise coming from bottom of engine
Graphic replied to aekdbhill's topic in Troubleshooting & Recalls
I have heard small exhaust leaks present themselves as a tick sounding noise. Since you are mentioning it coming from the bottom, might be something to investigate. -

I think overall the trucks have been well received. I believe most are good vehicles. The issues that GM has with most people in this section of the forum is the bungling of taking care of those that get a bad one. It's systemic throughout GM and most companies. At least in my case, that is. Literally, the service rep passed to me the area rep told him I would have to live with it. There were a lot of things that the Silverado was better at than my Ram, but other things it struggled with like throttle response, transmission gear selection, leaf spring noise, headlight illumination, rust protection, etc., I tried to get used to these things, but one can only accept so much. In the end, I am stil excited to get into the Ram in the morning and drive. By the time I was done with the Chevy, I hated looking at it in my driveway. It make me sick to my stomach thinking about how much money I wasted on it. Again, if they had said "Our mistake, we'll take care of you" and actually done that, I would still be driving GM. -

My troubles were enough that I changed brands. I was so angry by the time I left the dealership the last time... A customer should never be lied to or given the run around like I was... As far as the recalls and all that, I expected them with a new model year. But long running steering issues and being talked to by one of the service advisors and the area rep like I was just going to have to deal with it was insulting... Laying on my back in the driveway taking pictures of the rust proofing coming off (that the dealer and area rep said was normal) I threw in the towel. Wrote GM long letter detailing my experience day by day (kept it as a CYA thing) I have thought about posting here, but frankly it's just too darn long (like 8 pages) and I think most would lose interest after page two or so. They did call me back and asked what I wanted after they got the letter. I didn't ask for anything and actually told them in the letter that I didn't want anything. When she asked me, I said if you want to give me my down payment back, that'd be nice. (Not holding my breath, lol) After all the time I have been in a GM truck (25 years) I was fed up and couldn't take it anymore. This was by far the worst experience in buying anything or having any service performed that I have ever had. And it was the first "new" truck I had ever bought. -
I guess the point is moot anyway. GM has already figured this out, issued a TSB for it and has a fix. The things I see are execution errors. Dealers not finding the TSB, not doing the TSB correctly, area reps playing stupid regarding the TSB and customers are left unimpressed, unhappy and angry. When it comes down to it, it doesn't matter as long as they are selling more trucks. Bottom line. Whether their market share will drop because of it, who is to say accurately at this point? I think it will take another year before anyone can accurately say if all the new model year issues will drastically effect any kind of profit margins. That is the only thing that drives any company. Remember the Toyota frame rust so bacd on trucks they broke in half on the lifts? Toyota replaced the trucks or replaced the frames. I am not a Toyota fan, but as far as finally facing the music, they did well. On the other hand, it took years for them to get to that point. Maybe the long term effects need to be evaluated first. You know, kind of like the ignition switches...? I just wasn't going to take that chance or lose anymore than I already had in value.

I wonder why my wife's 2010 Avalanche looks okay. Might be plant specific... Mine was made in Ft Wayne and was a really early build.
-
They have been dipping them for quite some time now. They screwed the pooch on the model though and then told me nothing is wrong. My wife's Avalanche looked 10 times better and my 08 Silverado looked fine. My expensive 2014 was a damn joke. When the area rep told me that's just surface rust, it was normal I said that not what I am complaining about, I am complaining about the coating falling off. Oh? Haven't come across that before... After pointing this out to them, still get told it's normal. That was it for me. I think there are good trucks and bad truck in this model, just luck of the draw. The frames were not prepped correctly on a lot of the frames and no one would help. I honestly could over look a bad truck in a new model year. It's one of the risks you take buying one. However, to blatantly lie and mislead me is something I will not accept and NEVER forgive. I just hate that I had so many GM trucks before and I am looking at getting my wife out of the one she is in too. Turns my stomach.
-
I feel your pain and this is exactly what I did. I don't think I am the only one. Between a dealer service advisor telling me nothing is wrong and an area rep who could care less, GM lost a 25 year customer. I don't think the frame would rust away, although some pictures I have seen make me wonder a little bit. A few of them we attrocious! It was just the fact they touted great corrosion protection and that protection is falling off. Couple it with the other issues I had and that was enough. My wife's 2010 avalanche @ 100,000 miles looked better than my 2014 @ 8000 miles. Really enjoying what I am driving now though. I was keeping a detailed log of what was happening after the second trip to the dealer after I got the feeling they were not going to take care of things. More of a CYA thing. It turns out to be 8 pages of a How-To-Lose-A-Customer training manual. I have contemplated sending it to the Customer Service rep who was actually the person I was happiest with to give it to whomever would care, but I think I would be wasting my time and effort. I really want it to mean something, but when it comes down to it the only thing that mattters to any company is: Are people still buying? Since they are, upper management will pay no attention. So I am out another $8,000 (loss in equity) but I want to drive this truck and it doesn't turn my stomach to look at it when I get up in the morning.
