  1. Visiting mom and had to go out and get some food. Not a fan of the salt. Once I get back to NC it is getting a serious bath.
  2. I can add to the thread now that I'm in PA and we have 8" and growing of snow and only 18º F. Been this way since I got here last Thursday. Trucks now happy.
  3. Happy New Year! Hoping for continued health and happiness in 2025.
  4. 12/17/2024 2019 Silverado 53,965total miles on truck 6,480 miles on oil OLM at 12% Oil AMSOIL Signature Series 0w-20 EaO17 filter Sent sample off to Oil Analyzers.
  5. This is interesting. I know most don't care about EV but like it or not it is coming, no time soon but the Gen Z'ers will have to deal with it. We will be long gone. LOL
  6. My first car was a 68 Impala custom. It had the 225hp 327 with the turbo 400 trans. Sea Mist green with a black vinyl top. It was a great car. I purchased it back in 1980 from the original owner with 77k miles on it. He had records of oil changes every 3k miles using Quaker State Delux oil. At high rpm's it would pop back up through the carb. Turns out it was a known issue with the cam lobes wearing. Sure enough, when I took it apart one of the lobes was really worn. The inside of the engine was spotless. That is interesting because back then Quakerstate was bad mouthed for producing sludge. Not this engine. I rebuilt it with a blue printed 300hp Crane cam. I put another 100k on it and the lifters went. So I changed them out and put on a set of double hump 300hp heads. Man did that boost the compression. From that time on I had to use 93 or it would ping. It was a great car but PA salt got to it and was rusting out underneath bad. I just purchased my 65 Impala SS so I sold the 68. Many good memories in that ride.
  7. Yeah, when it comes time to paint this place I will be calling in the Pro's. Not my cup of tea and the house was just painted back in 2019 so I hope it will hold up for at least 15 years. We lucked out on this place. They completely remodeled inside and new paint and roof outside. So it basically is like a new house. They even spent the money and had 3/4" oak floors put in everywhere but the bedrooms and baths. Bedrooms have carpet and baths have tile. I've been replacing our back deck. Got tired of replacing boards and painting every year. We are going back with TimberTech Advanced PVC. After taking up all the decking, the joist were shot so I had to replace all 27 of them. The deck is 44'4" x 19'. I amazing how long it has taken me. My body has been hurting like I was back in high school and was my first week of football practice. What didn't help was I fell backward onto the joist and cracked my 11th rib. So needless to say that slowed me down some. I'm hoping to get it all finished up before Christmas. We are getting the last of the deck boards and fasteners delivered on Tues. This has been an expensive endeavor, it is what I call, buy once, cry once.
  8. Yes, AMSOIL only has fluid for the G96 and nothing for the G86. To me there seems to be an issue with the build/materials used in the G86 for there to be so many issues that I'm seeing. If the suggested fluid change out and additive suggested above works then I would try it. Beats going to the hassle of dealing with the dealer and it's an easy task.
  9. A friend needed his 36' camper that is 9k in weight towed from the campground. His truck went into limp mode over the weekend. So I went and towed it back to his house. It was a 4hr drive mainly flat except for the on ramps and overpasses. My 6.2 with the 10sp did a great job. I was surprised how well it towed it. I averaged 8.7mpg the entire trip and kept it at 60mph for the most part. Transmission never got above 160.
  10. 80 and was overcast today.
  11. That would be fine. How many miles on it? Depending on your location a 10w-30 would be good as well.
  12. I change the diff's fluids out after 500 miles. Like you stated to get the wear-in materials out and get fresh fluid back in. I know most don't do it. I've done it now on my last truck and this truck. I then go 100k. My last UOA on my 2002 showed all was well at 100k.
  13. Winter is around the corner and if anyone does their own undercoating, AMSOIL's HD Metal Protector is a good option to do annually. The average truck takes about 6 cans from what I have been told. I don't need it here so I have not done it myself. You can order it at www.syntheticadvantage.com, or contact me for the GM-Trucks discount and special that I offer.
  14. All good information posted. If you are already getting the discount, I take it you are a Preferred Customer. Then why not keep it simple and use AMSOIL. Less having to have different brands. The OE line is a great oil and the least expensive in a full synthetic. If you want one that is a lesser cost then you can use the synthetic blend. AMSOIL came out with the synthetic blend for the quick lube business's. It has over 50% synthetic stock in it and is a great choice if you change every 3k or earlier.
  15. How many hours on the oil? Just curious.
  16. Here is something for those that might be interested. Lingenfelter teams up with AMSOIL.
  17. Grumpy, I know you know how to take an oil sample, my question is how long to you drive before you take a sample. I noticed that if I try to just drive around town to warm up my FD is higher. I get my best results if I come off an hour drive down the interstate. I pull into the driveway and pull a sample within 10 minutes of shut down. So that is my route now to keep things the same.
  18. $2.69 here but moving up.
  19. To me, the reason AMSOIL has mad the 75w-85 is due to market demand. The average person wants to use what the manufacture recommends. Now, there is a difference in the formula for sure. But to me it is more on the lines of CAFE than anything. I've been using the Severe Gear 75w-90 when it called for 75w-85 and have had no issues. Trying to squeak out every little bit of economy is the main goal for manufactures to show they are doing what they can to improve it. Even the AMSOIL look-up guide showed the 75w-90 could be used. Just like the VTwin 20w-50 oil can be used in all three sumps. But then AMSOIL came out with a specific transmission and Primary fluid and sales increased. Marketing!!!!
  20. Your one option is to get a head unit from a 2016 that has Apple Car Play and install it. Problem is it will need to be programed, but I want to say some have done it to get ACP. Did you check YouTube?
  21. Hopefully sleep will come soon. Hang in there!
  22. How many miles on the engine? If you plan on keeping it, to me a new engine would be the way to go, cost might be high but less than a new vehicle for sure.
  23. Yes, just like RLI.
  24. I know I have used AMSOIL's CVT fluid in a few Nissan's with no issues. AMSOIL's CVT fluid is listed for this application. Grumpy, you can do a look up for it here. https://www.amsoil.com/lookup/auto-and-light-truck/?zo=521390
