  1. Yes check it out -- it's a known issue and all over the web but GM won't admit to it or fix it unless you ask. You can search for PIT5405 (it's posted on these forums) but many dealers act like they don't know it exists. I had a dealer claim they did mine but I didn't notice any difference. I got sick of dealing with it and decided to try the fix myself. I opened the dash and looked at the ground studs on both sides. I didn't notice any insulation pinched but just to be safe I removed both ground nuts, sanded the underneath of the nuts and the dash area around the grounding posts, and then tightened both nuts down firmly. Ever since I have not had any electrical issues.
  2. Do that fix in the video you posted (it's called the G218 ground). Once I did that it solved all my electrical problems.
  3. Chris, Thanks for the quick response. I love the Denali cluster and wanted to do this upgrade but don't know if I like the red menus. If I decide to do it I'll pick up one from a 2015 and let you know!
  4. Okay. I supplied the VIN in my first email but from one your previous posts I thought you said to email you for the cluster part number FIRST so I didn't buy the cluster yet. Guess I misunderstood. Mines a 2015 (possibly 2015.5) Silverado so I'll look for Denali clusters for that. But a few quick questions maybe you can answer here: 1) Can the background digital colors be changed from the GMC red to Chevy blue? 2) Can the Tach and Speedo overlays be changed out? I have a Z71 and kind of like the "reverse sawtooth" background. 3) I think the Tahoe LTZ was available in 2015 with this cluster. I assume that would work as well. Thanks!
  5. Does anybody know any other way to get a hold of Chris? I know he is busy but I have emailed him twice during weekend business hours and haven't heard back. I am interested in this mod.
  6. If your dad has a Denali he has the digital cluster. It comes with 3 different "themes" so he just needs to change it to the one he likes.
  7. Chris: Sent you an email from your website during normal business hours. Please watch for it or PM me. I am interested in this upgrade but have a few questions.
  8. I just traced the cargo light wire down from one of the lights in the bed. On the left side it runs down behind the taillight then across above the bumper. It plugs into a junction box just behind the spare tire. I just tapped in there.
  9. Correct but that's only true for 2016+ trucks. The OP has a 2015 so his radio doesn't support Android Auto or Apple CarPlay. And it can't be added without replacing the HMI with one from the newer trucks.
  10. GM (and most other car manufacturers) have always charged for updates. The GM system is designed around Navteq GPS and can only use their updates. The only official place to get updates is http://www.gmnavdisc.com I agree they should include updates. You pay $150 for a portable GPS and get free updates but you pay $1100 to add the factory nav and they want to charge you $150 a year for updates!!
  11. Posted in other threads here that talk about it (there are 4 or 5 already) but here is the short info: 1) Remove A-pillar trim (if there is no grab handle it just pops off; the ones with grab handles just remove 2 bolts) 2) Remove front of dash near windshield (it also just pops off) 3) Not needed but I unhooked the ambient light sensor and removed the tweeter to get better access to the ground studs 4) Remove ground nut, remove paint and clean under it, and reinstall tightly while making sure no insulation is stuck under it 5) Replace everything That's it. I did both sides and the whole process took about 20 minutes. I haven't had an electrical issue since ...
  12. Reminds of this group: http://www.leftlanedrivers.org/ I may get one of their windshield decals!!
  13. https://www.extang.com/i-26933381-2014-2017-chevrolet-silverado-1500-6-5-bed-extang-express-toolbox-tonneau-cover.html#!year%3D2015%7C%7Cmake%3DCHEVROLET%7C%7Cmodel%3DSILVERADO%201500 MSRP is around $470 USD but you can probably find it cheaper at some online stores.
  14. Have your dealer check PIT5405 (you can search these forums for a copy of it). It walks the tech through 4 or 5 things they need to check. The main things include the positive battery cables and the G218 BCM ground behind the dash. Many people on this forum got their electrical problems resolved by fixing these. The G218 ground is easy and you can fix it yourself if you don't want to take a trip to the dealer.
  15. The Amps come "down and out" but not back toward the rear of the truck. The GM ones articulate toward the rear of the truck but don't come "down and out" like the Amps. I have not found any that do both.
  16. Did they check all the grounds and positive battery cables per PIT5405?
  17. Oh okay - I misunderstood. I thought you meant it applied to the 2014/2015's with the 6-speed .
  18. I don't remember the TSB number but just search these forums for "loud chime". There are a number of other threads talking about it.
  19. Sorry I don't. I would like to check it on mine too but I'm just going to have the dealer do it the next time I am in for some other warranty issues.
  20. Not on the Yukon, only on the Yukon XL 2500 version. Yes they are rare.
  21. Responded in your other thread. The dealer does it. I don't have the TSB number handy but you need to ask about it. If your truck is out of warranty they will charge you the labor time to do it.
  22. Wait, what?!?! I have been following this issue for a while now and saw the latest notice on TechLink. But even that one says it only applies to the 8-speed. Great to hear it works on the 5.3L / 6-speed. I'll be asking my dealer about this!!
  23. Have the dealer check for fuel line pulsation: http://sandyblogs.com/techlink/?p=7569
  24. Search this forum - there are tons of threads about this. The previous fix was to check the G218 ground near the front drivers-side speaker. After a bunch of us complained to NHTSA they finally forced GM to recall them. They just announced the recall late last week and GM doesn't have the fix released yet but basically they will reprogram the software. We'll see if it works. Search for the G218 instructions. Once I did that it took care of most of my electrical problems.
  25. That's exactly where I wired them. If you have the factory LED bed lights you don't even have to run the wires very far -- the factory wires are right near the bumper and spare tire. I wasn't looking for extra reverse lights I just wanted something to light up the bumper steps when I needed to use them. Since it's usually when I get in and out of the bed I just wired them to the cargo lights and mounted the bullet lights in the top of the bumper step facing down. Now when I want to get into the bed at night I turn on the cargo light switch and the bumper steps light up at the same time. During the day you don't see the LED bezels since they are mounted in the top of the bumper cavity.
